Everything You Need to Know About the Geography and Nature of Israel
A country in Southwest Asia, Israel sits between the Arabia and Syria deserts and the Mediterranean. When it comes to the geographic borders, you have the Mediterranean on the western part, the Lebanon mountains in the northern region and Eilat Bay at the southern tip of the country. While the country is relatively small, the climate and landscape across Israel are rich in variation, and the density of population has little effect on the beauty of the natural attractions. When it comes to Israel, you have three key regions in the country:
The Mountain Region
Jordan Valley Rift
Coastal Plain
You will find the coastal plain in the western portion of the country. When it comes to the soil of this region, it is more fertile than what you will find elsewhere in the country. This region has some of Israel's biggest cities, including Haifa and Tel Aviv. When it comes to this plain, it has been divided into different regions:
Southern Coastal Plain
Sharon Plain
The Acre Plain
The Galilee Plain
Carmel PlainWhat to Expect for Climate
In the east, you have the coastal plain or lowlands. This serves as a transitional point for the Coastal plain and the mountain region.
Mountain Region
Next, you have the mountain region, which goes from Eilat Bay to the south to the rift of Jordan Valley. The highest peaks in the region include Mt. Meron, and Samaria's Mt. Ba'al Hatsor. The mountain region is less populated because of the rocky terrain. The region has an interesting climate with the northern parts having a Mediterranean or rainy climate. Meanwhile, the southernmost portion of the mountain region has a desert-like climate.
Israel's mountain region has two major valleys: the Be'er Sheva-Arad Rift and the Yizre'el Valley.
Jordan Valley Rift
Your third and final major region of Israel, this region goes from the Red Sea of the south to the northern town of Metula. This was a rift caused by earthquake activity, and it serves a role in the Afro-Syrian rift. The Jordan Valley has two different major lakes: The Kineret and the Dead Sea, which is the lowest elevation found on earth. When it comes to the Jordan Valley rift, you have multiple sub regions, including:
Dead Sea Valley
Arava
Hula Valley
Kinneret Valley
Jordan Valley
To the east, you have the Golan Heights region, which is a hilly part of Israel. A little north of Golan Heights, you have Mt. Hermon, which is the highest peak in Israel.
What to Expect for Climate
Israel has always had a subtropical region that includes two different seasons: You have the dry and hot summer season, and during the winter, you have the wet winter period. Israel has a lot of different influences that serve a role in altitude and distance from the sea. The climate varies, and you have a choice between swimming at the Bay of Eilat and skiing on Mt. Hermon. It depends on the activities you enjoy participating in. Overall, Israel has three climatic regions:
Desert Climate
Mediterranean Climate
Humid Climate
Are you looking for a great place to tour? Israel has long been one of the places that receives the most amount of radiation and light in the world. You can receive a wonderful sun tan at the beach, but you should always protect your skin with sunblock. The vast majority of the precipitation that Israel sees comes from the wet season every winter. Mt. Hermon sees snow every winter, and some of the other higher peaks also see some snow. When it melts, it has a trickle down effect hitting the surrounding regions with water. If you are going to visit Israel in the summer, you should bring light clothing and a bathing suit. Visiting in the winter, you will want an umbrella and warmer clothing. In the winter, Eilat, a port city, has always given tourists refuge from the rain.
Because the country receives very little rainfall, a lot of your rivers and streams in Israel will be seasonal. The largest river of Israel, the Jordan River, stretches out at around 250 kilometers. The river travels through lovely landscape and attracts many tourists each year.
