Mazda Demio is a 5-door 5-seater supermini car that debuted in 1996 and is now in its fourth generation. The first generation was produced from 1996 to 2002, the second generation from 2002 to 2007, the third generation from 2007 to 2014, and the latest and fourth generation introduced in 2014. In 2002 the Demio was marketed as Mazda2 in other markets until 2019 when the Demio nameplate officially retired and changed to Mazda2.

Specifications

The first generation Demio early models came with a 1.3L B3-ME straight-4 petrol engine producing 84HP at 6000 rpm and average fuel consumption of 17.5 km/l. Later, the 1.5L B5-ME straight-4 petrol engine was released producing 99HP at 6000 rpm with a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual gearbox.

The second-generation Demio introduced the z-series engines: 1.3L ZJ-VE straight-4 petrol engine producing 90HP at 6000 rpm with fuel consumption of 18.9 km/l, and 1.5L ZY-VE straight-4 petrol engine producing 111 HP with fuel consumption of 14 km/l. 

The third-generation Demio was built on lightweight materials, reducing car dimension, and added the 1.0L SkyActiv-D S5 turbo-diesel engine producing 103HP at 4000 rpm with fuel consumption of 12 km/l attached to a 4-speed automatic, 5-speed manual, or CVT.

The fourth-generation Mazda2 introduced the 1.5L SkyActiv-G F-P5 petrol engine producing 108HP at 6000 rpm, the 1.5L SkyActiv-D S5-DPTS diesel engine producing 104HP at 4000 rpm, and the 1.5L SkyActiv-Hybrid F-P5+ engine coupled with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Interior & Exterior

The first generation model rear seat can slide backward or forward which can also be folded to increase the luggage area. It has a high ceiling which gives an airy feeling and easy access. The 2005 model offers three trim levels for the Japanese market: Cozy, Sport, and Casual, while the European market: S, TS, and TS2. It also includes an adjustable steering wheel, electric windows, and driver seat height adjustment.

The 2008 model has enough cabin space with extra headroom and a 280L boot up to 960L when the rear seats are folded. It features a large speedometer, radio, and CD player placed into the dash, and the gear lever. The 2014 model comes with a USB port for its audio system, comfortable supportive seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, storage trays, and cup holders.

Features

The Demio comes with standard features such as remote keyless entry, an audio system with four speakers, a CD player, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, a tilt-adjustable steering wheel, air conditioning, and rear window wiper. Higher trim models offer a six-speaker audio system, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The Demio standard safety system includes airbags, an anti-lock braking system, Electronic Brake Force Distribution, Stability Control traction control, EBC, and brake assist.
