Everything About the Suzuki Escudo Minivan

Suzuki Escudo is a car first produced in 1988 and is also known as Suzuki Vitara and Suzuki Sidekick in other international markets. The 4th and current generation was released in 2015 and received various improvements to date.

Interior and Exterior

The 1st generation Escudo was available as mini SUVs with two choices, a 3-door convertible or a 3-door hardtop while the 5-door hardtop model was released in 1991. It has a much bigger boot, spacious interior, a 55L petrol tank, sturdy frame, and coil-spring suspension which results in a more comfortable long drive and solid performance on and off-road. The cabin offers plenty of legroom and headroom for taller passengers, a wide range of steering wheel adjustments, large door pockets, a glove box, and a boot space that can be extended to 710L with the rear seats folded flat. 

The second-generation Escudo was produced in 1998 with a curvy look and in 2001, the long-wheelbase version of the Grand Vitara XL 7 was released. The 3rd generation has a completely revised appearance with a sporty look and increase in size. And in 2015, the 4th generation of Escudo was unveiled with some chrome finishing, five slotted grilles, a 7-inch touchscreen display, an instrument cluster, USB/Bluetooth, AM/FM radio, CD player, four-speaker audio system, DAB digital radio, and steering wheel buttons. Other features like touchscreen sat-nav system, tweeters, and smartphone mirroring can be seen in high-end versions.

The 1st generation Escudo was equipped with the 1.6L G16A SOHC petrol engine (95hp) consuming 12 km/l, 2.0L V6 (H20A) petrol engine (134hp) consuming 10 km/l, 2.0L turbo-diesel RF Mazda engine consuming 14 km/l, 2.5L V6 (H25A) petrol engine (142hp) consuming 9.8 km/l, and 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine consuming 10.3 km/l with a 3-speed automatic, 4-speed automatic, and 5-speed manual transmission. The 2nd generation was fitted with 1.6L G16B petrol, 2.0L J20A 4-cylinder petrol (128hp) consuming 10.8 km/l, 2.0L turbocharged diesel, and a 2.5L V6 (H25A) petrol engine (142hp).

The 3rd generation offered 1.6L M16A (125hp) consuming 13 km/l, 2.0L J20A, 2.4L J24B (163hp) consuming 11 km/l, 2.7L H27A V6 petrol (181hp) consuming 12 km/l, 3.2L N32A V6 petrol (230hp) consuming 9.4 km/l, and 1.9L (Renault F9Q) diesel (100 hp) consuming 17 km/l. The 4th generation Escudo comes with 1.0L K10C 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol (110hp) consuming 21 km/l, 1.4L K14C (140hp) turbo-petrol with MHEV mild hybrid consuming 17 km/l, and 1.6L (120hp) turbo-diesel engine consuming 22 km/l paired to a 5-speed automatic, 6-speed automatic, or 6-speed manual.

Safety

The 1st and 2nd generation was fitted with standard safety features including airbags, seatbelts, and ABS while the 3rd generation included rear and front head airbags, side curtain airbags, electronic stability, ABS, and traction control. The 4th generation consists of seven airbags, rearview camera, ABS, seatbelt pretensioners and force limiters, Dual Sensor Brake Support, Traffic Sign Recognition system, and Total Effective Control Technology.
