European Tour has six new events
by Elizabeth DeLuca Tickets and HospitalityThe European our School has been taking place over the
last few weeks and has provided some amazing results.
For some professionals the tour school is the way into
their dream career, for others the tour school is their opportunity to put a
bad season behind them and retain their cards.
The pressure is immense, the talent unbelievable and
the misery or joy for each individual can be life changing.
One veteran of the European Tour, said of the tour
school it is more nerve racking than needing to hole out from 2 feet to win the
US Masters Tournament,
that is saying something about the pressure that the players face throughout
the tour school.
For many the occasion is too big, but for one golfer,
he hit a round of a lifetime at the PGA Catalunya Resort, firing him from 114th
to 15th in the standings with two rounds to go. American John Hahn,
who had finished 120th on the European money list, fired in 12
birdies to record a 12 under par round of 58. Although I am sure Hahn is
delighted with his score, he must be a little aggrieved that his score will not
be counted as a course record, as preferred lies were in place at the time.
Nevertheless a wonderful score and I wonder whether he will gain momentum from
it for the remaining rounds.
The European Tour has announced the 2015 schedule
which includes six new events and 7 new venues. New events include the Thailand
Classic, Indian Open, Shenzhen International and the Mauritius Open, whilst the
Bad Griesbach Course in Germany will host the European Open.
As of yet the date for the World Matchplay has not
been set due to the primary sponsors Volvo not renewing their support for the
event. Another matchplay event the Paul Lawrie Matchplay will also feature a
new course, the Murcar Links.
Enigmatic Irishman, Darren Clarke looks set to be
named as the next European Ryder Cup captain. Clarke enjoys a fantastic
relationship with the players and is also a crowd favorite.
Exhausted Hnrik Stenson retained his World Tour
Championship crown, despite some serious competition from Ryder Cup team mates
and world number one Rory Mcilroy.
Stenson who lost his lead to Spaniard Cabrera-Bello on
the 11th after hitting it out of bounds. But successive double bogeys from the Spaniard
ended his challenge for the title, and with Stenson carding back to back
birdies on 17 and 18, the towering Swede took the crown.
Stenson once again showed grit and determination that
could make him a good outside bet for the 2015 Masters Golf Tournament, a solid putter and
huge hitter; the Augusta course could provide Stenson with his first major
victory.
