The IELTS is an international standard test to verify the English language proficiency of a person, who is a non English native and wants to go abroad. The full form of this test is International English Language Testing System. It is conducted jointly by the British Council and Cambridge English Language Assessment.

Basically, there are two ways by which one can prepare for this examination - either by following the academic module or by following the general module. The academic module is for those, who want to apply for the universities in an English speaking country for higher education. On the other hand, general training is for those who are planning to undergo a non academic training and for immigration purpose.

What is needed?

IELTS is something, which needs a basic ability to write, speak, read and listen in English.

The speaking module is the most important part of it. It happens in a face to face interview with the examiner.  When the candidate is speaking, it is recorded and then monitored. It is also used for re marking when there is an appeal due to disagreements in the scores given by the examiner to the candidate.

There are various types of accents and writing styles used in this examination. This is in order to present the fact that there is no linguistic biased in the process.

There are band scores for each language skills. It ranges from 0 (for those who have not taken the test yet) to 9 (the expert examinee).

The Examination structure

This IELTS test is divided into four categories. There is a 30 minute listening session, an hour of reading session followed by an hour of writing session and 15 minutes of speaking ability test. In the listening session, there are two speakers and there is a conversation in between them. This helps the examiner to judge the speaking ability of the candidate. In the reading session, there can be a session about reading texts, journals and the magazines. The writing session is a bit difficult than the other parts of the examination. It is stated that the candidate has to write at least 150 words in a span of 20 minutes and there are negative marks if the answer is short and if there is no sense.

Keep in mind

One has to read and write and speak good English if they want to go to English speaking countries for higher education or for some job. To make this sure, the British Council organizes the IELTS test for the aspiring candidates. Most of the candidates have knowledge of Basic English, and it is not a very difficult task to prepare for the test. When looking for IELTS preparation in Delhi, the aspiring candidates must take a look on what is actually needed to sit for the examination. They need to prepare according to the format of the test only. A bit of attentiveness can bring success and ones the test is cleared, going to an English speaking country becomes easy.
