Either seamless steel pipe or welded steel pipe

We can hear different opinions in steel pipe market for seamless steel pipe, ERW steel pipe, galvanized steel pipe and so on. Actually, according to the large categories, steel pipe is produced by two methods, which result in either seamless or welded products.

Seamless steel pipe, produced by solid round stock. First, it would be heated, then extruded which would lead to a hollow steel pipe. Of course, this can give us disparate products by different parameter in the steel which ranges from carbon seamless steel pipe to galvanized seamless steel pipe and so on. This kind of process would give the seamless steel pipe a smooth and even surface finish as well as the balanced stress taking. Thus, it is more reliable, and can result in products with much higher strength and integrity.

Welded pipe, for example, ERW steel pipe or SSAW steel pipe, is manufactured by steel sheets which are rolled for use. So they have welded joint which causes the uneven balance for the product compared with seamless steel pipe. So welded pipe is less expensive than extruded, seamless pipe, but will not exhibit the same physical property characteristics, and is used mainly for low pressure applications or low-load requirements.
