Schools are not only where we develop our academic abilities, but where we also learn basic life skills. They not only provide students with an education, but also teach how to deal with the challenges that everyday life presents us with. Boarding schools offer a rounded education for British and international students, including an academic curriculum, accommodation and extra-curricular activities. Most boarding schools have separate residential buildings on the premises. Generally boarding schools have an emphasis on discipline with a framework of rules governing pupils’ behaviour in place, for example students are not allowed to go out of the school campus without the permission of the head-teacher.

There are thousands of international students studying in Boarding School UK. These fall into two categories:

  • State boarding schools, which only offer admission to students who are UK nationals or hold a full UK passport.

  • Private boarding schools, which offer places to both British and international students.

Schools in the UK feature high standards of academic excellence and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. Boarding schools in UK provide support for families of international students for example by conducting interactive sessions with parents via Skype or telephone, giving them reports on their child’s progress in terms of academic, artistic, social and sporting achievements.

The system of Boarding School UK is designed to fulfill the needs of individual pupils and bring out their full potential. Different schools require different levels of academic achievement on entry. Some also offer scholarship schemes for international students. The UK Education System is divided into four levels:

  1. Early years (children aged 2 to 4)

  2. Primary education (children aged 4 to 11, compulsory in the UK)

  3. Secondary education (children aged 11 to 18)

  4. Tertiary education (undergraduate and postgraduate university courses)

Some Boarding Schools in the UK offer tuition in languages other than English, aimed at overseas students. Mathematics, English and the Sciences are compulsory up to GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) level. Further subjects which can be studied to the same level include information technology, history, art, geography, music, physical education and modern languages. GCSE’s are an internationally recognised qualification and are taken at 16 years of age. If a student passes GCSE’s they can remain in secondary education and study for A Levels (Advanced Level). For entry into higher education or any professional training course in the UK, GCSE’s and A Levels are the main benchmark for evaluation of students’ abilities.
