Introduction
The first module will introduce you to the
topics set out in the course and the basics of screen awareness.
Legislation
Screen safety is set out in the Health and
Safety 8Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 with amendments in 2002. We
will go through that legislation so that you understand exactly what your
responsibilities are with regard to screen safety.
Protecting
your Body
This module takes you through the ways you
can protect your body from injury or repetitive strain. We look at the
potential risks and the ways to avoid them.
Adjusting
your Chair
This module will help you make a risk
assessment of your seating arrangements and show you the optimal position for a
chair, depending on desk height and the person using the equipment. A chair in
the correct position will avoid back, shoulder and neck injuries.
Adjusting
your Screen
Eye strain is a risk for regular users of
display screens. This module helps you to understand how the screen effects
your vision and what you can do to prevent eye strain.
Work
Arrangements
You should be working at the right height,
so ensure that you have a chair that adjusts to protect you from back strain.
Try to take breaks from staring at the computer screen to avoid eye strain.
Your working area should be clear from hazards and everything should be easy to
reach.
Adjusting
the Layout of your Work Station
This module teaches you about the risks
involved in stretching and twisting and will give you advice about the best
layout of your workstation to ensure you do not injure yourself at your desk.
Adjusting
your Work Environment
In order to avoid repetitive strain injury
or injuries caused to your back by leaning over your computer, you should
adjust your work environment to ensure that everything is in easy reach.
