Economic Opportunities on the Rise in Ontario’s Renewable Energy Sector as Biogas Rules Change

The Government of Ontario is all set to identify potential changes aimed at helping farmers expand Ontario’s renewable energy gas sector. The Government will launch consultations which will be focused on necessary modifications required to curb red tape. Besides, these consultations will also be aimed at enhancing untapped on-farm biogas opportunities.

Enrie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture and Food & Affairs said that they are launching these consultations so that potential changes can be identified to access new market avenues in the domain of renewable natural gas sector by curbing red tape. Hardeman also said that Ontario’s current biogas sector is estimated at $35 million a year and the consultations will help find out necessary changes which will help the biogas sector to grow by 50 percent in the next 5 years time.

Biogas companies in India are appreciating Ontario Government vision and planning to increase the economic growth opportunities in the renewable natural gas sector. The consultations will be comprehensive and will also focus on providing alternative to landfill disposal which can save millions of dollars. The Ontario Government is also focusing on encouraging the return of organic substances to agricultural land to enhance soil health and also to increase fertility for better crop production.

These identified potential changes will be added to more than other 80 actions proposed in ‘Better for People, Smarter for Business Act. This will help streamline requirements and also to eradicate unnecessary business regulations.

Ontario Government is focusing on reducing regulatory burden on farm biogas operations such as anaerobic digestion. These developments are certainly going to answer the biggest challenges pointed out in the Made in Ontario Environment Plan.

Biogas upgradation companies in India say that it is a welcome initiative which will set a precedent for many countries and will take biogas production to another level.
