EBC Trek- An Exquisite Memory Of The Best Adventure I’ve Ever Done

by Giselle Lobo Writer & Blogger

Personal Profile: Dev Kothari, how my not giving up attitude has helped me achieve the most valuable adventurous trek of my life.

Since I was in 10th standard, I have been fascinated with Mount Everest. I had seen a bunch of documentaries about how people have climbed it successfully with a dream, with an obsession. Till then, I knew nothing about the EBC trek until my uncle was looking for an Everest base camp trek. I asked him a little more about me, and he said- I’m going for a very adventurous high-altitude trek to Everest base camp. After having a conversation with my uncle for a few minutes, I was more than surprised that something I always dreamed of could be fulfilled.

To be honest, it was not possible for me to climb Mount Everest, but I knew my passion for this trek, and I knew that, if not Mount Everest, I could at least complete the Everest base camp trek successfully. After exploring different Everest base camp trek costs, it took me a month to understand & plan my itinerary before starting my first adventurous trek.

So, finally, I was getting started with my EBC trek. A dream in my eyes and an enthusiasm for a new adventurous experience that I was about to explore was immeasurable. I flew from Kathmandu to Lulka and then trekked towards Phakding. It was one of the ideal places I have ever visited in my entire life. When I started my second day from Phakding to Namche Bazar, I bought a few pieces of stuff for myself. The beautiful market of Namche Bazar helped me to fade my hunger with the juiciest slices of bread with the most famous yak cheese and butter.

I have seen some of the most mesmerizing places of my life while doing the trek to the Everest base camp. I have seen how children go to school no matter how cold it is. I have felt that nothing in this world is bigger than nature. I have experienced that mountain answer you.

While I was budgeting my Everest base camp trek cost, I wanted to stay in a hotel with a clear view of Mount Everest. I have always heard since my childhood that it is the world’s highest mountain and my interest to visit it for once was a fascination. At Monjo, I met a girl with the same love for mountains and adventures as me. She and I then continued our trek together. While it was not an easy trek, I knew it would be worth the effort. We continued with the trek even after a heavy storm and with a real struggle to breathe properly. These few little things had an impeccable place in my heart whenever I think about them. Although we couldn’t finish our Mount Everest base camp trek in a recorded time due to some health issues, we were more than happy that we finished it and didn’t give up on our dream. I had made a bunch of friends in Nepal and seen why Nepal is known as one of the happiest nations in the world (because they live near the holy “Mount Everest”).
