Mother’s day is less than a month away. Surely everyone has some plans cooking in their mind for how to surprise their mother this time. A lot of ideas are very common, the unique ones have been used up before, and on top of it we are in a lockdown. We also know that flowers happen to be a favorite among present givers, every year for mother’s day we used to create many floral presents at our luxury flower store. Yet, from another perspective, this is actually a great opportunity to make beautiful creative handmade gifts for your mother. She will certainly cherish your handmade present for life. We have compiled for you some easy DIY ideas for gifts, that you can execute at home.

Paper Quilling

Paper quilling art is one of the simplest crafts. To make a present for your mother, it is good if you already have a quilling kit, which consists of quilling papers. If not, then you can create quilling paper strips using a craft paper slightly heavier than print paper. You can color if according to your choice and cut out 3mm wide strips. Using this craft you can make artworks, jewelry, decorative things like vase and candle stands, or decorate an existing object like clutch purses.

Fabric Jewelry

Fabric Jewelry is a simplistic and eco-friendly take on regular jewelry. To start with, find a piece of fabric that you want to use. For hooks and trims you can disassemble old discarded pieces of jewelry. Decide what you want to make, it can be single pieces or a complete set. The good part is, pieces like bangles can be made using old pieces as base. For base for pieces like earrings, use cardboard or little pieces of plastic (can be taken from a discarded plastic bottle).

Preserved Flora

Fresh flowers make beautiful gifts, but so does preserved flora! Another benefit is that preserved flowers require zero maintenance. There can be few different ways of preserving, but the easiest and fastest one is microwave drying. Prepare the flower for preservation by cutting the stem 1.5-1 inches below the flower. In this process flowers retain their shape and color. After finding a microwave friendly slightly deep utensil (that you’re ready to spoil), pour silica gel in it about 2 inches deep. Place the flower upright and cover it gradually with more silica gel. Set the microwave just above defrost for 2-5 min, checking the progress of the flower you can increase the heat or time. After taking it out, let it sit for 24 hours, then with a gentle brush remove the gel from the petals.

If silica gel is not available, you can use sand drying process, it takes about 4 weeks. Pour some clean dry sand in a container, insert the flower upright, use more sand to cover the flower and let it sit in a cool dry place (room temperature) for 4 weeks. You can use these flowers in an arrangement, an artwork or a gift box with a message and flowers.

Water Transfer Art

Water Transfer Art is a beautiful way to paint canvases and objects alike. It is used to create unique psychedelic patterns by dipping objects in paint settle at the surface of water. To start, select what you want to paint, it can be shoes, handbags or a photo frame. If you want to partially cover something with paint, then cover the remaining
surface with duct tape. Now you need clean water in a container and acrylic spray paint. Try spraying the paint in a little sample container first, once you got a hang of it, do it in the main container. You can mix colors and use this sticks to form patters on water.
Once you’re ready, gently dip the object in water, when the desired surface is
submerged, take it out gently in the same upward direction.
