by Masashi S. JDM Enthusiast

The BMW X3 is among the oldest compact luxury crossover SUVs introduced in 2003 by BMW. Coming in 3 generations from 2003, BMW keeps providing the newest and latest release of the BMW X3. Since 2008, the X3 has started competing with numerous other SUVs and was viewed as the 1st mid-size, premium SUV on the market.

1st Generation

The 1st generation BMW X3 was produced from 2003 to 2009 and comes in a 4-door SUV equipped with the BMW’s all-wheel-drive system with 3 different engine sizes. Those engines are 2.0L N46 I4, 2.5L M54/N52 I6, 3.0L M54/N52 I6 petrol, 2.0L M47/N47 I4, and 3.0L M57 I6 diesel, backed by 6-speed automatic and manual transmission. In 2005 BMW upgraded the model and facelifted the model in 2007, with modified interior trim, engine, body bumpers, and suspension.

BMW X3 U.S-spec featured an 8-speaker premium audio system, A/M-F/M-CD radio, leatherette-trimmed seating surfaces with aluminum interior trim accents, power front bucket seats, keyless entry, and 17″ aluminum-alloy wheels. In 2005, a 2.0d engine joined the 2.5i and 3.0i engines as well as the 3.0d engine sold globally. The Edition Exclusive and Edition lifestyle models have been available since September 2008 and in March 2009, the M-Sport package was replaced by the Sport Limited Edition.

The 2022 BMW X3 is part of the third generation that offers practicality, and luxury. The BMW X3 receives a refreshed styling which includes new headlamps and taillamps, a revised grille, new wheel designs, tweaked exhaust tips, and updated front and rear bumpers. The standard X3 is now available with an M Sport exterior-looking package that is similar to the M40i racier model. The X3 comes with advanced safety technologies including a driver-assistance features, standard lane-departure warning, standard automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning, and available adaptive cruise control.

The M40i gains a 48-volt hybrid system and has 382 horsepower with some secondary controls and a matching digital gauge display and a 10.3-inch infotainment display are still standard, and now offer 12.3-inch upgrades for both. The X3‘s interior is stylish and well-equipped with 10-way power-adjustable front seats, which include adjustable side bolsters. The X3 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder with 248 hp, while the turbocharged 3.0L 6-cylinder engine provides 382 hp, delivering a 4.1-second 0-to-60-mph time. The EPA rated the higher-powered M40i with an average of 12.3 Km/L and the 4-cylinder xDrive30i which offered 133.1Km/L.

Finally

The BMW X3 is well-rounded with a very attractive design and advanced safety features, but it’s the bold and agile turbo engines that make it one of BMWs favorites. You can check the BMW X3 stocklist for some latest and affordable models.
