Drive and Explore New Territory with Toyota Land Cruiser

by Masashi S. JDM Enthusiast

The Toyota Land Cruiser J300 series was released on 9 June 2021 offering a unique and standout appearance that makes it more appealing. It has impressive reliability, spacious cabin, state-of-the-art features, and off-road capability which makes it the perfect on and off-road passenger car for family or personal use.

5 Pros

Powerful Engine

The J300 comes with a 3.5L V35A-FTS twin-turbo V6 petrol engine producing 305 kW power and 650 Nm torque, and a 3.3L F33A-FTV twin-turbo V6 diesel engine producing 220 kW – 227 kW power and 700 Nm torque. These engines are paired with a six-speed automatic or 10-speed automatic transmission.

Off-road Driving

The J300 offers a standard full-time four-wheel-drive system with a Torsen limited-slip center differential that can be locked and a two-speed transfer case for serious off-road conditions. There’s also a semi-autonomous crawl control, an off-road turning assist feature, and the Electronic-Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System that helps increase the stability and superior off-road performance of the vehicle.

Towing Ability

The J300 has a towing capacity of 8,100 pounds and comes with a towing hitch receiver, wiring harness, and connectors which makes the towing easier and more convenient.

Cutting-edge Features

The Land Cruiser comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, JBL sound system, 360 camera, heated seats, and seat ventilation. It is also equipped with a start-stop engine, blind-spot monitoring, auto-dimming rear vision mirror, hydraulically assisted steering rack, radar cruise control, and Toyota Safety Sense.

Big Cargo Area

The Land Cruiser has 200 Liters of regular boot space and can be extended up to 1000 Liters when the third-row seats are folded down and it can still be expanded up to 2000L when the second-row seats are folded down.

5 Cons

Pricey

The J300 is not a budget-friendly price and as a new model and new design comes, it just keeps on getting expensive. Added some optional features then the price will surely increase. Though some buyers still prefer the Land Cruiser due to its good reputation and reviews.

Cramped Rear-Seat Room

The Land Cruiser J300 has a spacious front with comfortable and ventilated seats, while the second row has reclining and sliding seats. But the rear seats have limited legroom and headroom that is not fitted for adults which may be a bit disappointing to some customers.

Gas Usage

The Land Cruiser offers several great features but when it comes to fuel economy, it may not be the best choice. It tends to take up so much fuel to keep running compared to other SUVs in the same category.

Not a Sport Car

The Land Cruiser looks bulky in appearance, height, and weight. And the speed is not up to par with other sports cars and even turning the corner becomes a factor due to its weight. It has a resemblance to a pick-up truck with its off-road performance, towing capabilities, and carrying cargo.

Height

Climbing in and out of the Land Cruiser is quite a big step, with its almost 2-foot step-in height, which is not really a big problem. So, be ready for a 32-inch lift to the rear floor when loading cargo.

Verdict

The Land Cruiser J300 is definitely one of the most popular and top-selling 4×4 SUVs around the world. With its excellent reliability, state-of-the-art features, and spacious and comfortable cabin, as well as a large boot space for the cargo. It also offers off-road performance and towing capabilities, which makes it an ideal on and off-road SUV that can be used for everyday’s activities.
