I am reviewing a brand new released tablet version of the Dragon Touch A1X Plus, running Lollipop 5.0 - amidst other hardware upgrades, I'm sure.

Now the long and skinny is, for a 10.1" screen running Lollipop and having integrated GPS sensors, the A1X Plus does have the goods. However, being the very proud owner of another Dragon Touch tablet, the Dragon Touch X10 10 inch Octa-Core Tablet, which is running twenty bucks more, you get a whole lot of extra upgrade for that twenty bucks. Specification to Specification, the X10 is hands-down superior... except it doesn't run Lollipop (KitKat 4.4 instead) nor has integrated GPS. Yet if those two particular aspects are of little concern, then I find myself urging you to consider the extra twenty for the X10.

Nevertheless, if GPS navigation without burning up Online Mobile Data Minutes, or you don't want KitKat (personally, I am more than fine with KitKat, yet I know there are many who view it as a "limited OS"), then the A1X is worthy for consideration.

Alone, without comparison, it does hold its own.

1024x600 IPS Display - hefty screen phase-shifting with up and down angles, yet does remain relatively clear with side-to-side angle changing. IPS screens, and their inherent phase-shifting, is the predominant screen type among all budget tablets, just some are worse (lot worse), and some are better (but higher up in the budget price scale for the clearer multi-angle viewing). I give this an "Above Average" mark for the phase-shifting.

Non-partitioned, full memory w/ 12.5GIG free. No "bloatware", only the standard Google Android apps and utilities. Although non-partitioned memory is finally becoming more common, the whole division between Device Memory and Internal Storage is still common enough in the budget tablet range that I give extra marks for not having to deal with the fiddly number juggling that partitioned memory requires.

In spite of my own rather twitchy WiFi at home, still decent load speed with YouTube and Amazon's own graphical advertising heavy web-pages.

The Rear/Forward Camera... sucks. Yet that is what 99% of all budget tablet cameras are. Sucky.

Does indeed have a *Mini* HDMI port for direct screen casting to HDMI TVs or Monitors - so if you need to buy a cable, be sure you aren't clicking on a *Micro* HDMI, which looks more like a Micro USB head, the Mini HDMI being wider and flatter. A really nice way to read your eBooks on a big screen TV. :)

Does charge via the Micro USB port, which after so long using and evaluating budget tablets, is rather ironically unusual, but should be the familiar powering method for most. Does have a AC Wall Plug to Micro USB cord included, but any 5V USB Source will do (power banks, car chargers, at-home charging hubs).

Does have a physical Reset Pinhole. If you ever have to reset and wipe the tablet, you can use this without having to go in and use the soft-reset.

CONCLUSION

This is a good, budget 10.1" Android tablet. It has a quick quad core 1.3Ghz processor with a 1074 x 600 resolution multi-touch screen. The screen is fairly responsive, and the tablet has enough memory (1GB) to stream media without a problem.
