Doula Training In Austin Includes Rebozo Workshops For Positive Birth Experience

Having a baby is a beautiful and scary experience and there are many books and resources out there that tell you how to “handle” it. However, none of these books give you the direct and physical attention you need to walk through this journey with confidence.

This is where doulas come in. Acting as guides to pregnancy, they help you be more confident about the process and what happens after.

If you’re interested in becoming a doula yourself, or know someone who is, you’re in luck!

Gena Garcia, an internationally recognized doula and rebozo instructor, offers doula services for expecting parents in the Austin Metro area. The new services include pre-labor support, assistance and advocacy during labor and delivery, as well as a postpartum visit.

Now, you can meet with Gena online first through Facetime, Skype, or Google Hangout before moving forward to a face-to-face interview. This initial meet-up ensures that both parties are a good match for each other so that both of you can learn in a safe and trusting environment.

There’s a misconception that the consultation is only for expecting parents to “interview” Gena, but it’s also an opportunity for her to see if she believes you can work together! Remember: giving birth is an intimate experience and you need to be comfortable with Gena for you to get the most of your partnership.

Gena’s mission is to help mothers throughout the United States have a positive birth experience. By training more doulas, she hopes to empower families to take a nurturing and transformative approach to birth and see it as a journey rather than a goal. Her doula training approach is in line with her philosophy that “birth is an emergence, not an emergency”.

Gena combines her years of experience as a doula along with the latest research in women's health to help you be a guide, friend, and mentor to expectant mothers. In particular, she emphasizes protecting a mother’s neocortex - the part of the brain that processes motor, language, emotional, and associative information - to reduce pain and allow for a more natural, less painful birth.

Gena refers to a recent study published in the Journal of Gynecology - Obstetrics and Neonatology that suggests that happier and healthier mothers can inhibit their neocortex during birth, allowing the primitive brain to release the necessary hormones for pain relief and easier labor.

Still, she blends new research with traditional methods such as rebozo training to help mothers, and their partners, feel more at ease during the birth.

Want to learn more? Gena offers online doula training and rebozo workshops. You can also schedule a 30-minute consultation on her website! Though she prefers to meet in person, she is available online, too.

A former student wrote, "I love this course. I get to see the ins and outs about being a doula I never thought of. It's more than just having clients you support. I am able to think about the business from so many aspects. I feel like this course has given me a leg up in how to traverse this business."
