Dolby Cinema Enhances Superior Home Cinema Design

by Layton Judd Smart Home Audio Visual

The popular movie theatres today are equipped with latest devices that make the cinematic experience even more powerful and enjoyable. One such technology that brings movies alive on the screen is DOLBY. This revolutionary technology combines with power-packed Atmos surround sound system (four additional stereo speakers) for enhanced entertainment.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) is the latest buzzword and the chances are that you have already heard of it. HDR is just not about high contrast with brighter picture, it provides a more realistic image with highlights making home cinema systems a good experience for the viewers. Dolby Cinema is the first one out of the box of HDR with Dolby vision. It is credited for launching the concept of PRM-4220, a 42-inch HD with hundreds of backlit zones. Home cinema systems work on the same principle, but do not have as many zones and will not carry the name of Dolby.

Atmos and Dolby’s audio wrinkles make it the best of home cinema design Brisbane. Atmos is included everywhere, but the emphasis should be on the image enhancement improving the viewing experience of an average user. Dolby cinemas has claimed to have high frame rate capability, wider color gamut and HDR which would not only offer brighter picture but also punchier highlights and deeper blacks in the home cinema systems.

Dolby’s pro HDR flat screen monitor can emit 4000 nits of peak brightness, which is more than 1000 foot-lamberts. Average consumer HDR sets have the capability of 800-1000 nits that proves that Dolby cinema in fact enhances cinema design of home cinema systems. The peak level brightness produced by the Dolby is not even close to the brightness produced by a flat-panel HDR. ‘Inside out’, a Disney movie that has used Dolby cinema format got wonderful responses saying that the black levels were spectacular and that they have never experienced that before.

There were several discussions though on how a selective projection system can illuminate different parts of the screen. Experts suggest that the ability to scan chips with the idea that lasers can be turned on and off instantly would allow for such projection

The first Dolby cinema format was followed in Netherlands last December. AMC has teamed up with Dolby to convert their own, i.e., AMC’s prime auditoriums for the forthcoming years. For a citizen of U.S.A living in LA, Kansas city, Atlanta or Houston, there would be a AMC prime location with the Dolby cinema format already. Four more such theatres are yet to be completed in July. IMAX theatres are also expected to gear up with the Dolby format owing to the high quality experience, no announcements were made on this though.
