Do you still have a Shame?
This story occurs at Dzulkarnain Iskandar (Alexander the Great), several thousand years before Christ. At that time, the atmosphere is hot, very hot to burn skin and cause thirst, which was excruciating. Moreover, there are no rivers or wells nearest environment.
A member of Alexander's army, the mighty, seized a pitcher of water from the hand of an elderly farmer who wanted to drink. There was only water from the pitcher's an old farmer, the helpless, there was no other water sources. Farmers stunned when the pitcher-water was taken warrior Alexander. Dialogue occurs between the old farmer and soldier:
Farmer: "O warrior, Don't you have anything to drink?"
Soldier: "No. My water has run out since two days ago. "
Farmer: "Don't you still have a sense of shame?"
Soldier: "What do you mean?"
Farmer: "The shame had robbed a sip of water from an old farmer which weak. But you still have the horse and the strength to find the source of water more than the contents of this pitcher. "
Soldier's astonishment, until not lift a jug to his lips. Shocked and finally apologized as he handed back the urn that contains only a little water to an old farmer. Ashamed to have committed an abomination.
Finally, Iskandar Dzulkarnain, the soldier's experience in a stele inscribed in the City Epheseus (now Turkey), reads:
"Having a sense of shame is a testament to heroism of the soldiers. The officers who have no shame, the value is lower in rank than the soldiers? ".
Prophet Muhammad emphasized that embarrassed some of the faith. Al-haya-u minal Imaan. Specifically, people with no shame, his faith is incomplete.
While philosophers famous developmental psychologist the 9th century, Ibn Tufail, stated, shame accompanies human nature. Humans who have no shame losing their nature as human beings.
Nowadays,
the shame has been eroded from most human hearts, that the shame of
being wrong, embarrassed for corruption, and shame to take something
that is not right. In
other words, many of us have lost the value of heroism as they say
Alexander the Great, has lost some faith in the formulation of the
Prophet Muhammad and has even lost their human nature as the opinion of
Ibn Tufail.
My
friend, let's exciting to do something positive back to society and
this nation, restore a sense of shame that once existed in our hearts.
May Allah give us guidance and protection to always fulfill the rights of others and not take something that is not our right.

Just plain honesty
This is a great article although the translation loses some of the poetry. Shame used to be the leveller that kept people righteous. Even today, those people capable of feeling shame tend to be more spiritually developed than those who aren't. I have not seen this story before but I can imagine that even a soldier in a conquering army can retain sufficient humanity to accept a righteous rebuke and acknowledge the error of his ways. All religions preach the value of humility (an aspect of shame i
