Dimension Data sued over racist remarks on their former chairman, Andile Ngcaba
by Johnse Na Andile NgcabaThe former
director-general and postmaster under the Nelson Mandela government was
racially discriminated against in the company where he was the chairperson.
Andile Ngcaba served as the company Dimension data’s Chairman for more than a
decade. Before leaving the company in 2017, in 2016 he found out about the
unfair remuneration or unequal pay practised against him. Andile Ngcaba accuses
the company of paying his white staff and directors much more than him. He was
also excluded from the incentive scheme which he found out before leaving the
company.
Andile claims
that his bonuses are still unpaid even after being promised by the company’s
global CEO Brett Dawson during the annual performance review in the year 2004.
Andile’s spokesperson, Yolande Tabo says that Mr.Ngcaba only wants what's due
to him. It has hurt his feelings and dignity for being discriminated against in
such a way after working all these years for the company.
Ngcaba was not
aware of the pay gap until the Company Act was amended and it led to the
company disclosing the director’s remuneration. Ngcaba says it is very unfair
of the company to pay the white staff more than him and it is a matter of
institutional racism. Andile Ngcaba also accuses the company to be racist and
said that he has been a victim of racist slurs and discrimination.
The Japanese
conglomerate NTT being the head of the company Dimension Data (Didata) also
refused to acknowledge the situation even after Andile Ngcaba himself travelled
to Japan to discuss the matter. Andile Ngcaba is now taking the matter to the
high court and wants R440m for the damages and his unpaid bonuses.
In another
recent legal dispute with Dimension Data, iSAT, an internet provider company,
also filed a lawsuit against the former for system failure and demanded R21
Billion for the damages made by the company.
