Digitisation Has Conquered The World

by Ankita Sehgal Freelance Blogger, Lives in New Delhi
If you were to tell someone from the early 19th century that one day millions of books’ worth of information could be accessed through a single screen, they would declare you a lunatic or dismiss it off as fairy tale magic. Thankfully, this mystifying thought has now become a reality, and quite possibly our entire world has become available at the touch of a button. Let’s look at how the rampant growth of digitisation has revolutionised the way we think, feel, eat, travel or even perceive the world.

Communication

Clearly, the most ubiquitous and tangible change that we feel is the ability to see and talk to our loved ones all over the world- even those travelling in space for that matter! Distances no longer feel so distant because our smartphones ad laptops are here to bridge the gap as we are virtually omnipresent.

Storing Information

Today, what can be stored in a phone may actually be more than what could once be stored in entire houses. There is never a dearth of information as we access everything unrestrictedly.  Whether it be biometrics for medical purposes, storing the entire database of a company or just storing research articles for personal purposes, today everything is possible.

Business Sector

Strategy formation, resource management, execution of policies are just a few things that are done under business process management. Technology has made things like monitoring, innovating and management of businesses much easier with networks sustaining themselves incredibly, and enhancing performance and trade.

Home Delivery

Shopping, eating and even services have been digitised and one no longer needs to have contacts to get jobs done as reliable apps have taken on the job of your personal assistant. From grocery to expensive machinery, from your breakfast to your Yoga trainer, everything is on your phone. The online shopping industry has also prospered immensely as it brings the ease and comfort of shopping at your own house.

Globalisation

It is common knowledge that the advent of call centres has done wonders. Call centre outsourcing companies in Dubai can now take orders from a European company and give orders to factories in India to produce machinery in a way that maximises efficiency with minimum costs. Work can be given to the location that carries it out in the best way possible. This is truly resource management at an international level.

Socialising

Even our social lives have become intertwined with digital means as we now maintain two lives- our actual lives and our social media lives. Access to information is synonymous with access to power as this form of digital technology controls our lives. Political struggles are now being shaped through these platforms where people express, vent and speak their minds.

Like any other change, digitisation too has its pros and cons and it is in our hands to ensure that it remains a good servant and not a bad master.
