Different types of embroidery done on salwar kameez

by Bella H. Ethnic Wholesale
Embroidery is an art in which threads are used to make detailed patterns on the cloth. This art form had been in India for quite a long time. Every region of India has a particular type of embroidery done on a special cloth material. Embroidery is done by two methods, hand and machine. The embroidery done by hand is a little thick in detail yet very creative in patterns and designs. It is one of the special fields of the traditional handcraft being sold around the world.

Women from every country, who visit India loves to own a piece of embroidery salwar kameez done by hand. The other type of embroidery practice I doing them by machine. These are much finer in details. Sometimes the artist does it directly on the fabric. However sometimes the computerized machine pre fed with the design details do it on the fabric without the guidance of the designer or the artist.

Some of the popular forms of embroidery are Zardosi, Phulkari, Ari, Kashmiri Embroidery, and Chikan and so on. In the Zardosi form, the embroidery is done by using a metallic wire instead of the fabric threads. Gold, silver, copper, bronze and other such metals are quite popular in this form of embroidery. Due to the skill, artisanship, and use of metal, this type of embroidery is quite expensive.

Zardosi embroidery can be seen on the wedding salwar kameez as well as the heavy sequenced lehenga and sarees worn during these special occasions. Phulkari is the traditional form of embroidery done in Punjab by the ladies. It is mostly done on the dupatta instead of the salwar kameez. You can buy them to add a touch of grace and charm to your casual salwar suits.

The women of Punjab use soft colorful threads to embroider designs and motifs on the fine fabric of dupatta. These are so famous that even the people living in far off countries like UK, Canada and USA order them online. It is a tradition to present Phulkari dupatta to the Punjabi brides over here in the region and communities of Punjab spread all around the world.

Chikan is one of the popular embroidery done in Lucknow. It is done on the most finest fabric using mostly white soft threads. The work is done with hands thus, it is quite expensive. Chikan embroidery salwar kameez, dupatta and fabric pieces are quite popular all around the world.  These are just few of the popular embroidery styles followed in India.
