Image Diwali the festival of light is undoubtedly the biggest festival in India. Days of conspicuous celebration and exuberance finally culminates on the big day known as Deepawali. The festival embodies the victory of Lord Ram over the demon Ravana and marks the end to their 14 years of exile. As the festival is celebrated across the entire state, not all people adhere to this theology. Every state carries their own mythological story to commemorate the Diwali festival.

Karnataka

Contrary to the North India Diwali is celebrated in Karnataka as the denouement of demon Narkasura by Lord Krishna. The first and third day of Deepawali is significant. To commemorate the festival people take oil bath on Naraka Chaturdashi. On the third day known as Bali, Padyami is celebrated by designing colourful rangolis.

Odisha (Orissa)

Diwali celebration has a unique significant in Orissa and is commemorate by calling the spirits of the ancestors. This is done by erecting tall bamboo trees, putting a pot and inside the pot earthen lamp is lit. Many bamboos are erected along the path making the way for spirits to the heaven. West Bengal

Diwali is embarked by cleaning the house and decorating it by diyas and lamps. The festival is celebrated for three days and it starts by Lakshmi pooja in the evening. For the rest two days it’s all about conspicuous merry making, gambling. On the final day called Amavasya goddess, Kali is revered slowly marking the end of the festival.

Gujarat
The state is known for its grand celebration of Diwali. The real zest starts over a month with a cleaning of the house, painting and decorating it. Shopkeepers decorated their shops and people spent a lot on shopping. Two days before the Diwali is celebrated as Dhanteras, an auspicious day for shopping. On the final day people wear dhoti, kurta while women adorned sarees. In the evening Lakshmi puja is done and crackers are fired.
