Difference Between Rarity & High Valued 10 K, 14k & 18k Gold Wedding Band

by Donnell Dean Wedding Bands

Throughout ancient history, gold jewelry always has been coveted among those seeking status, wealth, and beauty. Gold always sparked the movement of people and was integral in the creation of the monetary system. It is considered a naturally occurring metal and is considered to be the most precious in the entire world due to its rarity and high value.

Gold is highly resistant to oxidization and is soft and malleable, that’s why gold is widely used with other metals to form alloys, and these alloys are used to make jewelry. The natural color is yellow. When it comes to selecting wedding bands, couples have many choices they can go for 10k, 14k, or 18k Gold Wedding Band

Most couples scratch their head while going to purchase wedding bands. Before differentiating the difference between these three types of gold rings, it’s very much vital to understand what the term karat (K) means.

Karat is a standard unit of measurement of the purity of gold in any jewelry. Pure gold is 24 karat, but the main problem associated with 24k Karat is that it’s too soft to be made into a durable and long-lasting wedding ring which is why the gold ring is made by adding some impurities into it.

In the 10k, 14k,& 18k, the number of karats associated with the gold rings indicates the proportion of gold compared to the alloy metal in the entire mixture. The more the value of the coefficient associated with the karat value, more will be the gold content and purity of the gold.

Difference between these three rings

24k gold is considered the purest form of gold, but any gold that is 10k or above is considered solid gold. Below is the simple breakdown of gold metal to allow metals in the simplest ratio, which is found in male and female wedding bands.

So, from this, we came to know that the higher the value of the Karat, the more the value of gold in the wedding band. 18k Gold Ring Mens can be considered to have more concentration of gold rather than the 10k or 14k wedding bands.

18k gold wedding contains 75% of pure gold at the ratio of 18 parts of gold to 16 parts other alloy metals. 14k gold wedding band has 58.3% pure gold at a ratio of 14 parts gold to 10 parts alloy metals. Lastly, 10k gold wedding bands contain 41.6% gold at the ratio of 10 parts gold to 14 parts alloy metals.

Does Karat of Gold affect the Durability?

As you might be aware, the purest form of gold is 24k, which is very soft and can be worn as daily wear because of its smooth nature. From this data, it follows that the higher the amount of gold content in the jewelry, the lesser the durability of the wedding band.

Most gold wedding bands get scratched over time due to household activities, but when you use gold jewelry made of 10k or 14k gold, they are harder and are more scratch resistant than the 18k Gold Wedding Band.
