DevOps Trends Prevailing in 2018 and Beyond

by Insta Carma Outsourced Web Hosting Support

It being based on its continuous development philosophy, the new trends in DevOps should not come as a surprise to the technology industry veterans. So, by extrapolating the trends prevailing in the first half of this year, we can arrive at what the later part of the year 2018 is yet to witness and which trends are going to stay even beyond 2018 for the next few years as well.

Here are some of the trends we would like to talk about here:

1. Enterprise DevOps

As in the year 2017, the ratio of enterprises adopting at least some aspect of DevOps principles was 84% with only 30% of enterprises being able to adopt this company-wide. This implies that while the DevOps adoption has gone wide, it has not penetrated deep enough into the organisational cultures. Looking at the current trends, 2018 and beyond would be the time for the enterprise DevOps to come into picture more prominently than ever.

2. DevSecOps would be more of a necessity

With the enterprise scale-up of DevOps, comes the need to integrate security and compliance into the transformations for ensuring enterprise success. The users and vendors are constantly and increasingly anticipating the injection of the security mind-set and incorporation of the security people into the DevOps systems as a standard requirement to ensure secured software development, more than just an additional feature of the enterprise DevOps. This implies a bigger accountability for the developers to ensure the security of the applications and the data processed.

3. CALMS ( Culture, Automation, Lean, Measurement and Sharing)

The experienced professional agree that successful DevOps adoption actually lies in the successful integration of a number of common important ingredients. In this year, these key ingredients have been identified as Culture, Automation, Lean, Measurement and Sharing (CALMS).

4. Serverless technology

According to the recent researches, the serverless computing and abstracting out of the containers and orchestration edges is prevailing in the market as the function-as-a-service while growing phenomenally. So, this year is the year of the serverless technology to take off and looking at its current growth figures, this trend is here to stay.

5. KPI metrics will balance speed and stability

DevOps runs on the fuel of measurements and therefore, the KPIs play an important role in measuring the success of the DevOps transformation undertaken by an organisation. With the right set of metrics, the organisation ca visualise what’s working with the implemented tools and processes currently and which processes or tools could be tweaked or replaced to achieve better results. This year, it has been ascertained that for tracking proficiency, the metrics measuring the ability to develop and deliver software with both speed and stability are what count the most. And it is the balance between the two that needs to be achieved for DevOps success. No organisation can afford a trade-off between these two important criteria and hence, it is needed to strike a balance between the speed and the stability metrics.

Among the many DevOps trends coming up in the near future, these are the ones, we anticipate, would prevail in the market. Most of these are inspired by the prominence of the enterprise DevOps in the recent times. Needless to say, for achieving overall operational efficiency of your business, this is a smart choice your business must make.
