It’s time to tap the potential the region offers!
India is one of the most diverse countries in the world. Every region of the country is different and has immense potential to offer. In the last few decades, the country has witnessed drastic development across all regions of the country. However, one region which still needs attention from all and sundry is North Eastern part of the country. It is one those regions of the country which is home to plenty of natural resources which can be the reason for the development of the economy as well as the region. It is high time to pay attention to the Development of North East Region.
Lack of opportunities has affected the growth of the people as well. Literate population and limited employment opportunities are the biggest hindrance in the development. The region needs funds and investment from government as well as private sector. Setting up industries is one of the best available solutions to ensure economic growth of the area. Although central government has launched several policies to boost the area, unless implementation in total is made, it is not possible to get desired benefits. Proper efforts and measures need to be taken to make sure timely implementation of these policies.
As a matter of fact, even the industrialization in the area has not developed fully. What further add to the worries is the fact that even small-scale industries have not been successful because of lack of economic infrastructure such as accessibility to the market, transportation and communication. Even today, agriculture tends to be the prime economy of the region. Conventional single crop farming is still practiced in plains while shifting culture and primitive framing practices such as burn and slash continue to be performed in hilly parts of the North East region. It is because of this reason that the area is unable to produce sufficient grain even to feed its own populace. Majority of the north eastern states import food products from other parts of the country.
While neither the industrial nor agriculture has developed to its full potential, the service sector has expanded in a disproportioned manner although it is limited as well as less productive. In the times when the economy of the country is growing at fast pace, the economy of the North East region is slowing down leading to a great gap between the region and other parts of the country.
It is important to bridge this gap. The rising gap in the economy symbolises negligence by the policy makers of the country. Given the fact that the region is bestowed with several natural resources, there are immense opportunities for the growth and development provided the right policies are implemented. There is no shortage of funds, what lacks is the right direction. The absence of entrepreneurship can be stated as one of the prime reasons for the present situation of the North East part. No doubt, certain development changes have taken place however it still needs a lot to pave way for dynamic development. for more info visit: http://www.nectar.org.in/
