by Greg Arizpe President

Cabo San Lucas or Cabo, as it’s commonly known in the US, is placed on the southern end of the Baja Peninsula. It’s a convenient location on the Pacific Ocean, opens up various opportunities for tourists to plan activities that they mayn’t be able to do elsewhere. Deep sea fishing is definitely one of the most popular activities that a lot of vacationers prefer to do in Cabo San Lucas. The exhilaration of going out on the Ocean on a boat with experienced captains is a great treat that you certainly don’t want to miss.

While it is all right to spend a few hours on the beach sipping a cocktail or you can go out & enjoy a great meal in Cabo, there is one activity that can be repeated over and over again. No doubt, a deep sea fishing trip in Cabo San Lucas is the way to go.

However, like there is a proper time for everything, deep sea fishing in Cabo San Lucas can also be done in a specific time of the year to catch or spot the exact species of fish you want.

Spring time is like the pre-game warm-up for the summer. The climate during spring isn’t hot, yet it is not cold. The climate remains right in the middle which offers utmost comfort. The Cabo fish species you can spot during this period include swordfish, striped marlin, jack crevalle, rooster fish, snappers, groupers, and yellowtail.

Summer time is no doubt the hottest time of the year, In some regions, there’s more of a humid heat compared to others. But this period is ideal for deep sea fishing of blue & black marlin, dorado, wahoo, and rooster fish. Blue & black Marlins are the real challenge for any fishing enthusiasts looking to take home a pool prize.

Autumn is the most colorful time of the year. It’s also a great time to reel in some blue & black marlin, swordfish, wahoo,  yellow-fin tuna, mako shark and sierra mackerel. A yellow-fin tuna can get as massive as several hundred pounds whereas Swordfish can get even bigger compared to a tuna.

Winter months can be harsh. If you wish to learn how to fish in awkward conditions in Cabo, then this’s the season for you. During this period you can easily spot swordfish, striped marlin, sierra mackerel, mako shark and yellow-fin tuna. It can be tedious for any veteran fisherman to reel in a big catch in the harsh condition of winter. However, if you’re up for the demanding deep sea fishing challenge in Cabo, then this’s the month for you.

Fishing is something that can be enjoyed throughout the year in Cabo. The type of fish that can be caught may vary, but there is always something to fish in the waters of Cabo. However, it’s wise to know what fish is going to appear in which season. Cabo fish are absolutely different from others and knowing which is going to emerge all through the year will serve in your favor when it comes to reel in the pool winning fish.
