Decorating the Perfect Living Room
by Dave Johnson Marketing for Tracey AndrewsThe living room of any house is where many memories are made
over the years. Whatever you style of preference, be it modern, formal,
minimalist, or traditional, it is a room that you want to be both inviting and
warm for your guests. Therefore, when it comes to designing this room, you will
probably want to follow a few interior design pointers:
1.
Focal Point – Your living room will want a focal
point. This is sometimes described as an anchor point where your eyes will be
drawn to as you enter the room. This might be a television, fireplace, or large
windows for example. There is also the option to have more than one focal point
in the room, but this does need to be chosen carefully so they do not compete
or conflict with each other.
2.
Arranging Furniture – All too often, you will
see people just move the sofa up against the nearest wall and be done with it. The
problem with this is that it’s not really conducive to being a room that
invites great conversation. Here the trick is to position the furniture in a
way to really does facilitate good conversation and warmth, and not just
looking at the space available.
3.
Fabrics – Being a room where a lot of time is
spent, choosing the right fabrics are key. With the prices of the different
furnishings these days, it really is worth doing some planning here. Here we
need to think about drinks being spilt, perhaps if you have pets, and what
fabrics are more low maintenance and are easily cleaned.
4.
Declutter – One of the worst things you can do
in your living room is to let it become a dumping ground. Having too much
clutter is the easiest way to spoil the appearance of any room, and so this is
where good storage options are key. Try to really limit what you need in the
room first of all, and then secondly think of some nice storage options which
work well with the style of the room, and of course don’t take up too much
space.
5.
Colours – Picking a good colour scheme for your
living room is also important. This can really affect the mood of any room, and
so most people will opt for neutral and warm colours for their living room. However,
this doesn’t mean your room needs to look boring. A good interior designer will
help you choose some great colours for your room, which keep your room neutral,
but look vibrant and warm too.
Here we have covered just a few pointers for decorating
your living room. Head over to Tracey Andrews Interiors to find out lots
more.
