Cyber Bullying in Canada

by Danielle Watson Writer

In the 21st century, cyber bullying is one of the burning problems of internet-related technologies. Some people use communication technologies to harm others by sending abusive messages, posts, and comments in social sites or in mobile text message service. Most of the time, young generations do cyber bullying for fun, but sometimes, it causes severe harm to the society.

In recent time period, cyber bullying created a critical issue in Canada. Lots of Canadian teenagers have chosen self-destruction as a result of cyber bullying. So, federal justice Minister of Canada, Peter Mackay, has informed that soon he will introduce holistic legislation in order to fight against cyber bullying.

I think both education and legislation are the best solutions of bullying. Experts believe that early intervention in the problem of cyber bullying and proper education about the negative results of bullying may help teenagers to improve their minds against such activities. Education is the best way to teach children and teenagers about the drawbacks of bullying. Schools can create bully-free-zones in their territory and organize programs helping children to develop healthy relationship with each other. Anti-bullying programs are extremely important at school, because it help kids to understand the impacts of their actions.

However, additional laws can help to prevent bullying, too. Government of Canada enacted different anti-bullying laws. These laws allow people to seek protection orders from courts if somebody is a victim of cyber bullying. According to the anti-bullying legislation of Manitoba, such cases offer justice to the victims including protection orders and mandatory penalties. Saskatchewan and British Columbia government introduced special websites, where youngsters can report about bullying activities. These websites help individuals to protect themselves from cyber bullying.

So, from the above discussion, we can come to a conclusion that Canadian authorities can control cyber bullying by providing special education programs at school. Nevertheless, the government legislation rules can protect victims of cyber bullying by providing appropriate actions against wrongdoers.
