For wildlife enthusiasts Corbett national park is a paradise. Its spread in an area of 520sq km and is situated in the southern part of Uttarakhand state spreading between Pauri and Nainital district near Ramnagar. It is India's first National Park created on August 6th 1936 and was renamed after the legendary British hunter and tracker turned conservationist James "Jim" Corbett who played a key role in its establishment and spent major part of his life in this area.
The park is just around 280 km from Delhi and very well connected, that makes it a popular tourist places in India especially for people near Delhi NCR. The Park remains open during Nov to April every year and is visited by thousands of tourists whose numbers are increasing year on year.
The unique geography of the park comprising of hills, river belt, marshy depressions, grasslands and a large lake makes it the most diverse national parks in India with maximum variety of flora and fauna flourishing in it.
Corbett national park is famous for its Tigers, although there are plentiful tigers in the park but spotting them is not easy due to the abundance of camouflage in the park comprising of thick forest , tall grasses and the vast inaccessible spread of the park.

They take you around the park at scheduled places where the chances of spotting a tiger along with other animals are good and one should surely go for a jeep safari when visiting Corbett national park. Apart from tigers there are leopards, Indian elephants, wild buffalos , jungle cats, barking deer , sambar , black bears and many variety of monkeys along with other animals in the park. Corbett National Park tour is also a paradise for bird watchers with 100 of varieties of birds been spotted there along with some rare migratory birds which are attracted by the swamps of the large lake.
Accommodation inside Corbett national park is limited with only few guest houses. Guest houses at Dhikala and Gairal being the most sought after and advance booking will be good as on spot booking you may see the house full tag. Some couples who are nature lovers do come here for honeymoon although it is not favorite honeymoon places in India but can provide with you the calm and serene environment on the tree houses in the jungle.
Alternatively there are numerous resorts, lodges, hotels outside the core zone on the road providing basic to lavish accommodations. They organize permits and jeep safaris for the guests and are also good options if you don’t get accommodation inside the park.
