There are some conditions that could influence the applicant when he or she takes on the Immigration Medical Examination. Here is a list of some mental and physical conditions or diseases that could affect the applicant’s passage to immigration:

MENTAL CONDITIONS:

If the applicant is mentally retarded or has some learning disabilities, a report should then be given to the USCIS-appointed Medical Surgeon that helps to record the history of treatment given and the medical supervision that has been accorded to the patient.

If the applicant has some medical history of physical abuse or violent tantrums and behavior this too has to be communicated to the Surgeon; this will allow the doctor to define whether the said behavior was pertaining to a situation of drug abuse or alcohol consumption. Even if it seems minor in comparison even a small attempt at suicide can point to a condition of self-induced harmful behavior.

The mental condition of the applicant is therefore, very important during the Immigration Medical Examination process. Any past hospitalization of the applicant for a mental illness that could be classified under psychiatric illness also needs to be reported to the Surgeon.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS OR DISEASES:

TUBERCULOSIS: If the patient has tested positively for tuberculosis during a skin test then a certificate has to be provided to the USCIS Civil Surgeon indicating the situation surrounding the positive skin test report, and what has been the course of treatment that has been prescribed, and for how long the treatment has been or was continuing. It also has to be conveyed to the doctor as to whether the patient is still suffering from the disease and a list of all medication that was taken should be given.

ABNORMAL X-RAY:

If the green card applicant has an abnormal x-ray this too should be produced during the physical examination of the applicant. The Surgeon could demand the original X-ray and not just the reports, in order to compare the two x-rays- the previous, abnormal one and the one taken by the Civil Surgeon during the Immigration Medical Examination.

SYPHILIS: If the patient had a case of syphilis in the past then a written certification should be handed over to the Surgeon stating the case, with a complete report of medical history of the disease and the medical treatment given.
