Being in research, we hear a lot about academic journals every day. But do you know what actually these academic journals are all about? In very simple words, an academic journal is used to publish the results of academic research work. Depending on the disciplines, these publications differ from one another. Hence we can say that an academic journal plays its role as a base for the future research work and its presentation. Also it lends hands in comparing the research to make the overall process more fruitful. These journals are also foundation for the ongoing research work.

What is an academic journal?

Concept of an academic journal has not been restricted to a single field only. Every journal has its own motto. For instance there are journals that have academically based articles. These articles are written by research scholars and they have been reviewed by the peers. All these activities do not have any kind of commercial goals or purposes. All they focus on is to be a reliable source of spreading knowledge. This includes the original research work, book reviews along with the review articles. On the other hand if we look at the professional magazines, they act differently. They have commercial purposes. Also they are not peer reviewed.

Most of the times, academic journal has a panel of experts. These professionals meet each other on regular manner and discuss about the matters that are related to the academic journals. This panel is nothing but a board of experts for the peer review. This panel decides if the article or research documents need to be accepted or rejected, submitted for the final publication.

What is the role of peer review in an academic journal?

It has several roles to play. Most prominent are as follows:

·         They correct the grammar of the submitted document.

·         Challenge the conclusions of the submitted paper.

·         Mistakes are rectified that facilitates in spreading the right knowledge.

·         They make sure that only quality content is forwarded for the publication.

In short, these academic journals are a reliable source of spreading knowledge.
