by Karann S. consultant

Whenever you want to buy any appliances, it is very important to verify the features of that device. There are many people who don’t know the difference between microwave oven and OTG oven and consider the two as similar. But, that is absolutely wrong. If you go through this article minutely, you’ll find fair differences between these two gadgets. Maybe these devices often look alike, but the functions and features are completely different. Read on to know more-

Difference in Pre-heating-

There are several recipes where you need to heat up the oven before putting the food inside the device. This process is known as pre-heating. In case of microwave oven, the machine takes only 5-6 minutes to get pre-heated, while this time reaches up to 15-20 minutes in case of OTGs. If you’re using an OTG, then you should keep a thermometer to check the required temperature as this machine tends to overlap the heat that is mentioned on the knob.

Bakeware-

Actually, the bakewares are same for both the devices. So, you can use same baking trays for a convection microwave and an OTG. But, the size of the bakewares is really a problem. In case of microwave the turn table is small and it rotates continuously. Therefore, the large baking trays of an OTG may not fit inside a microwave.

Difference in Temperature Setting-

Those who have used both the devices know that there is no difference apparently in this case. Both the device can be set to the maximum heat of 250 degree. But, if you have an OTG, you can keep the oven switched on until you put it off manually. This feature is known as Timer Bypass. Microwaves don’t have this feature.

Difference in Function-

The name of OTG ovens suggests its function. You can toast, bake and grill your food in this type of ovens. But, it doesn’t help you to cook, melt or reheat food items as a microwave oven does.

Difference in Capacity-

Microwaves are less capacious than OTGs. The maximum capacity of a microwave is 32 liters where an OTG has the capacity of 60 liters. If you want to bake single cake or one sheet of cookies, microwave is okay. But, if you need to bake multiple food items at the same time, OTG is the best option. Its multiple layers help you to bake 2 cakes or more than one tray of cookies.

Difference in Price-

Before buying any of these, you definitely need to know this, right? Well, you can get a 40 liter OTG at 10000 while a 32 liter microwave will cost more than 16000.

Controls and Display-

In case of OTG, all these are manual but, microwave has done your work simpler by making these digital. You can’t go wrong in setting time and temperature in microwave.

These are the basic differences between microwave oven and OTG. Now, it is up to you to decide which suits you best.
