Connectivity and proximity are fusing together with every new invention.  Webinar Services though relatively new, are a very prominent addition to this list of social inventions. There are various tips and tricks available for hosting a session and increasing audience interaction. There is even a dummies guide to a successful webinar yet there are some fairly regular video conferencing disasters occur despite all the guides floating around the internet.

Read on to learn about these mishaps and how you can avoid them at your next webinar.

1.    Ambient sounds :

Hosting webinars wherever you are, is precisely the aim of this communication medium. But it doesn’t mean people need to hear ambient sounds and know exactly where you are. For instance, once during a global conference, the host’s flush was heard around the world.

Quite sensibly the smart thing to do is to make sure that all ambient sounds and the people making these sounds be informed beforehand about a webinar in the house. Avoid distracting ambient sounds or scenes.

2.    Prime time quarrels :

Having issues at home or neighbours making a ruckus is not a very bizarre concept, but all this on live feeds during an important webinar conference call is quite defaming. So a lover’s spat going live and global will not do much for your credibility when hosting a webinar.

Find a quiet place or room for the session and lock yourself inside if needed. Stay disconnected be it in person or through your phone or social media because your audience needs to know that they are important to you.

3.    Pet’s minutes of fame :

So your cat just got famous, because a lot of people just saw him throw a tantrum and scratch your face. Some people might find it cute, some others might view it as being funny but most of all it is distracting and highly unprofessional.

Try to keep your pet with a friend or a neighbour or just somebody else in the house while you are still on the webinar platform hosting an important conference. Keep them busy and quiet while you are busy with the session.

4.    The awkward silence :

This could be a technical or an absolutely human error. If you are nervous and that’s probably why you stop talking in the middle of a sentence, then it’s something you’re just going to have to work on. But if it is a technical error it is mostly going to be embarrassing.

Before starting the session do a test run and check for any expected errors. Also be prepared with your content and try not to go silent. But if you do, then don’t forget it’s ok to make mistakes.
