SOFTWOOD AND HARDWOOD

In broader terms, all kinds of timbers are categorised as hardwood and softwood. They are entirely different and the softwood is sourced from coniferous species such as cedar, fir and pine. CEDAR

EUCALYPTUS

FIR

This one is also given the name of Douglas fir or Oregan and it is mostly found in red, brown colour. The main feature is that it has straight grain and a high strength-to-weight ratio

PINE

The next name in the list is of the pine and because of its anti-termites properties, this along with rustic timbers a very popular flooring option in Australia.

ASH

This timber can be easily identified because of its white-to-pale brown colour and it is mostly used in the manufacturing of furniture. In the past few years, it has been used too much as an alternative to white oak wood.

BEECH

This timber is basically the native of Sweden, Denmark and Norway and because of its toughness, it is a good choice for tasks like furniture making, flooring and for firewood as well. This is a white pale to brown wood timber and has fairly bland grain.
