Common Myths Associated with Intruder Alarms

by John Smith Sales
Many homeowners refrain from investing in home security systems even if they want to. This is because they have certain notions and perceptions about these alarms, most of which are the cited and debated drawbacks of the previous generation alarms.

Some of the most common myths have been busted below.

Common intruder alarm myths

  • Most of the times, intruder alarms go off without any reason

The previous generation intruder alarms mostly used either heat or movement detectors to trigger the alarms which would trigger alarms easily. The modern day microwave alarms however, use a combination of both for a better understanding of the presence before setting the alarm off. Use of software algorithms and high frequency rays has helped filter out and detect presence more sensibly.

  • Having a pet in the house nullifies the effect of an intruder alarm

Modern intruder alarms come equipped with pet tolerant sensors, wherein the pet’s weight and height can be present making it filter out the presence of your pet moving within the premises of your home.

  • The alarm often goes off even when the property is vacant

With technological upgrades, the modern day intruder alarms come with programmed event memories. These memories store all kinds of information about when, how and why the alarm went off at a particular point. This allows users modify the protocols of the alarms to address the issue of alarms ringing even when there’s no one around the house.

  • They ring all day long creating a nuisance

The laws in many countries have restricted the duration of ringing for home security alarms to a maximum of 20 minutes. After 20 minutes of ringing, the alarm stops by itself.

  • No one really pays attention to the alarms owing to unreliable nature

Most intruder alarms today are connected to an Alarm Receiving Center (ARC) which monitors and manages actions from the security systems installed in homes and offices. So there’s not much to worry about if onlookers don’t respond to the alarm.

  • There is little time between entering the home and disarming the alarm

Modern intruder alarms can easily be re-programmed to give you the time you need to reach the control after entering into the premises of your home.

Movement detectors emit rays that are harmful

Microwave waves or Normal Passive Infrared (PIR) used in most modern day sensors are so negligible and of high frequency that they don’t affect humans or animals even if they are exposed to these emissions for prolonged durations. Also, alarms can be simply turned off when the home’s premises are occupied.
