Common Mistakes Made By Parents When Starting A New Session

by Mona Singh Writer

The transition to e-learning means that parents need to be there to guide their kids through the sessions. It can be a bit of a hurdle, especially for non-techie moms and dads. If you’re starting a new online session, here are a few tips to ensure online learning success. Test out these suggestions to see which ones do you and your kids a world of good.

It's Here to Stay

A lot of parents are exasperated and even frustrated with the fact that they need to guide their kids through online classes. Given the current situation, though, it’s safe to assume that online classes aren’t going anywhere. The sooner you accept that the sooner you can work with your children’s teachers and cooperate to ensure better classroom learning.

Test the System

One of the first things you need to do is to test out the system, program, or instructions that the teacher sends. Practice. If there’s a meeting, go over the steps. Carry out each one so you’ll know what to expect, how long it will take, and what you’ll need to do. These practice sessions will ensure that you and your kids log onto that class or meeting right and right on time.

Pick a Spot

Before your kids start any of their online sessions at school, make sure you designate study areas for them. Setting a space up for them helps increase motivation, attention levels, and eliminates distractions. It should be well-lighted enough but not too bright that it might hurt their eyes. Establishing a workspace for your kids also helps condition their minds for hours of lessons and studying.

Look for the Right School

A good school will make it easier for the parents to sign up for the sessions. They send clear and helpful instructions. They have contingency plans. They are prepared and organized as they go about establishing the new normal for students, teachers, and parents. Keep that in mind when you look for the best school in Malaysia.

Know the Teacher’s Expectations

Before any of the classes start, make sure you read through the list of requirements that the teacher usually sends to the class. That way, you’ll know what your kids will be held accountable for in the online classes. Use that information to prepare for those requirements in advance. That way, when it’s time for your kids to get those projects done, you already have the materials ready. You won’t be in a mad scramble, trying to find the materials they need at the last minute. There’s time to order everything in advance.

Check-in with the Teacher

Touch-base with the teacher. Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help, especially with any of the lessons that you’ll need to teach your child or subjects that you’ll need to be there to watch over your kid. Remember that you and your children’s teacher are a team. You’re both in this together. You have a common goal: that is, to ensure that your kids get a quality education.
