Coffee Tables Decorating Ideas That Will Attract Every Eye

by Liza Smith Blogger
A coffee table is one of the most common and most useful pieces of furniture in your living room. Everyone who enters the room sees it. While it serves as a functional table to hold items such as drinks, books, decorative and photo albums, there are several ways to decorate any coffee table to enhance its appeal. If you are shopping for coffee tables online, these ideas might help you make a decision on the best one to fit your taste and your home.

One of the first rules is to not over-decorated. Don’t overdo it. Coffee tables are supposed to be used and functional. You don’t want to clutter the table with a bunch of stuff that doesn’t leave any room for people to place their drinks (like coffee). You also don’t want items that might break easily or tip over. The area where your table will be placed is likely a high-traffic area. So, make sure you look at the area around where the coffee table will go. Measure the space to make sure there is enough room to walk around and that your decorations will not be obstacles.

Use one tall item as a focal point or centerpiece. Too many tall items will be distracting, especially if your coffee table is between seating areas and a TV. Having one item stand above the rest can create a unique look with some balance. The best ideas are flowers or a candle holder.

Use a small throw. If using a throw, you might not have room for many other items, depending on the size of your table. But, a throw can add elegance and style to any table. You can play around with colors, but typically you don’t want the throw to stand out too much. Try white or different shades of grey, or a subtle design that matches other items in your living room such as rugs or curtains. These are easy to remove if needed. Throws can also cover up scratches or water rings on coffee tables.

Add a few magazines or books. This is one of the most obvious and most used ideas for decorating coffee tables. Having something for people to pick up and read or at least flip through is always a good idea. Don’t add too many magazines or books. A stack of two or three will do if placing them on the top. More can be placed on the bottom of the table if your table has a bottom shelf. Try fanning out two or three magazines to add some style. Use magazines or books that fit your taste or that most of your guests will enjoy flipping through.

Speaking of a bottom shelf, definitely, use it to store other items in addition to reading material. If you are looking for coffee tables for sale, look for ones with bottom shelves to hold remote controls and any other equipment that you don’t want standing out on the top of your table.
