Image Different seasons require that different care regimes be used for your pet. So read on for some seasonal tips regarding your dog’s nutrition and health in autumn.

Party season

With Halloween and Thanksgiving coming up, you have to be extra vigilant and keep an eye on what your dog eats at all times. Too many sweets are bad for your dog’s health. Also the party season will mean that there will be guests in your house. If you have to leave your dog outdoors, ensure that it stays warm, so ensure it has a dog coat on. You may also get busy during such times and neglect your dog’s health. Take your dog on a walk whenever possible.

Indoor games

You may have spent the entire summer outdoors doing all sorts of fun things with your dog. A change in season will require a change in your daily schedule. Even though during colder weather, dogs like to sleep more, you have to find a way to channelize all its pent up energy. If your dog does not get its proper share of exercise it may have behavioral problems. Make sure you find ways to entertain them indoors by buying a few engaging indoor games. These will keep your dogs busy and not make them restless.

Walk along

Autumn and then the approaching winter will mean shorter hours of sunlight. It is dangerous to take your dog out in the early morning and night. Do not let your dog out of the house without a leash around its neck Also ensure that the dog has an id tag with proper details on its person. It is best that you walk your dog yourself. Snakes are out on a final prowl before retiring to hibernate for the winter. Steer your dog clear of such dangers. Also a change in weather will mean an increase in pests. Keep your dog pest free by making sure it has a dog coat on.

Reflective clothes for dogs

Colder weather means fewer hours of sunlight. This increases the chance of accidents. It is better that you buy some clothes for your dog that have reflective stripes on them. This will help people see your dog in case it loiters around and prevent any mishaps from happening.

Consult your vet for nutrition proportions

With the colder weather settling in, your dog will need more energy to perform all activities so you should give it more food. But this weather also means that your dog will not get as much exercise as it used to in the summer. This may result in your pet gaining weight. The best way is to consult your vet as they will be able to advise you on the proportion of food that your pet needs to stay healthy in such weather.
