Choose The Right Contractor For Your Kitchen Remodel

by Viktor Aharon Assembly Squad Construction

Choosing the right contractor for your kitchen remodeling in Chicago can be very exciting but, at the same time, very frustrating. You will need to start your due diligence by checking the company you interviewed on the state website to see if they are in good standing and have no financial issues. Could you see if their employee or independent contractor fills any lien for past-due invoices? Secondly, are they licensed and insured? Worker comp? , thirdly you would like to see their proof of work and ask to speak with their clients directly. That will ensure you that they had a good experience. Lastly, please ask your contractor to provide a detailed proposal to break down each item with specific details.

In some cases, contractors will send a one-page proposal with the scope of work in general and not have each item detailed, resulting in many changes in change orders and fights with your contractor if that item was included. If your contractor doesn't send a detailed contract, please feel free to run away, as that's not a sign of a professional company. If you have a detailed proposal, that is a good sign that the company is taking it seriously and you have something to work with it; next is to jump on a call with your contractor to discuss the received proposal in more detail and ask for what materials they are using.

What is the project timeline? When contractors provide a start and end date, you know they are fully transparent; this is a key to a successful project. Don't be afraid to ask all of the questions you can; you'd instead ask than feel sorry later on; we have seen so many clients who haven't done good research and got stuck with unprofessional trades that never finish their job, or they underbid themself and realize that they didn't charge enough, which lead us to the next topic, never choose the cheapest proposal, remodeling of a kitchen, bathroom or basement can be costly. Still, the cost is determined by the scope of work, size, and materials selections; unprofessional contractors will underbid your job, and they will ask for more money later on. Professional companies will present you with a detailed scope of work, provide you with quality service, and, most importantly, give you a warranty on their work! We always tell our clients this: we charge a specific amount as we know what is involved and the time and effort it takes to be a portable project. Some clients will always go with the cheaper bid and pay much more later. Do your treasures well. It is super important!
