Chevronshop is Chapter 8 Compliant
Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs manual was issued by the Department for Transport to provide guidelines for companies operating on public highways for work purposes or inspections should be equipped with high-visibility markings. Chapter 8 also requires a speed limit of 50mph.
While Chapter 8 is not yet a legislation, and won't be complying to these guidelines, we are leaving ourselves open to potential legal action should an accident will happen involving our fleet. Because officially, the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978 requires all clients, employers, and employees to establish and maintain safe system of work. Hence, we should let our vehicles have high-visibility markings.
And having said high visibility rear markings, it should comprise either:
• Chevron markings comprising alternate strips of "Class Ref 2" to BS EN 12899-1 or retro-reflective grade orange-red retro-reflective material and flourescent yellow non retro-reflective material of not less than 150mm width each, inclined at 45-60 degress to the horizontal and pointing upwards.
• Or, a solid block of fluorescent orange-red retro-reflective material. And these marking should cover as much of the rear-facing portion of the vehicle as possible without obscuring windows, vehicle lighting or registration plates.
Chapter 8 is not yet a code of practice but, the principles are the same. It is a friendly reminder to all business owners that by having conspicuous colours for their vehicles, they can save lives and fewer accidents mean less downtime. So, less contracts missed and you are able to save on repair costs.
And Chevronshop provides a range of materials that can be used to mark the rear, sides, and front of your vehicles that would meet the Chapter 8 guidelines. We can reassure you that we will take you and your business' safety seriously.
