Celiac, Anyone? Lancashire Pubs and Restaurants Care

by Carlos Lorence Marketing

It is probably too hard for a person who is also a food lover but needs to control his taste buds only because of a disease he suffers from. The disease we are referring to here is the Celiac Disease, a disease that is a deterrent for connoisseurs. Interestingly, the world is not over for a person having Celiac disease because, it turns out, even such people have a great taste and have taken to food tasting – food that is meant only for the Celiac people. Some of you may not have heard of this disease ever before and this is not your fault because it is not such a common disease to hear of. Some brief introduction may help you in understanding the disease and why Lancashire pubs and restaurants have hear the concern.

About Celiac Disease

Some people are allergic to gluten; this is because their small intestine is hypersensitive to gluten and thus it becomes indigestible for the person, leading to further complications. The disease is more of a immune system disorder wherein upon the introduction of gluten in the small intestine, the immune system identifies it as foreign object (an antigen) and attacks it, thereby leading to weakening of the digestive system. Ultimately, the digestive system is unable to absorb essential nutrients also.

Where does gluten come from?

A lot of food items contain gluten, especially bakery products such as bread, pasta, crackers, etc as these are made from wheat, triticale, barley, rye, etc which are good sources of the allergen. Beer or ale also has gluten.

Role of food havens in Lancashire

You could expect a little knowledge of gluten-free food when eating out in Lancashire. This is the best part; a lot of restaurants understand the need of a gluten-free diet for such people and that Celiac disease is totally treatable, that too just by keeping a tab on diet. Not only restaurants but even bake houses now provide gluten free cakes and bread. The awareness in this part of the world is surely a tick mark in the box. Of course, being gluten-free means a lot of restrictions on the yummy part of food but hey, our food isn’t bland either!

Treating Celiac

It is really simple; all you need to do is take care not to have anything that has wheat, rye, barley, triticale or anything that contains gluten. If you head for a pub in Lancashire, make sure you don’t have beer or ale. Starch, rice, soybeans, corn, potatoes are all fine. You may also splurge on meat, eggs and fish and on vegetables and fruits to satiate your hunger.

Going out

There are a lot of gluten-free recipes available on the internet apart from the many food products that are available over-the-counter at shops and bakeries. If you can’t think of a recipe, you may head to a restaurant in the vicinity and they may be able to provide you some lip smacking gluten-free dishes. It’s Lancashire, after all.
