CBN Oil - Everything You Need To Know!

by Jill Ross Marketer

How often have you looked for CBD oil or other CBD products for treating various ailments? It is natural for you to incline towards the herbal and naturally occurring treatments; and what can be better than cannabis?

Luckily, cannabis is no more a secret or a taboo for anyone! Many parts of the United States have taken a step to legalize cannabis. Patients need 420 evaluations of Bakersfield to purchase their medical marijuana.

Cannabis has many cannabinoids like THC and CBD that people talk about. But, the search of cannabinoids does not just end here. The plant contains several other cannabinoids that pose a good range of benefits.

A seasoned cannabis user is aware of what I am about to discuss! However, for the ones who are not aware of CBN and its products- let dive right into it!

What is CBN?

CBN (cannabinol) is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants in low traces. It is a non-psychoactive compound created as the THC ages. Hence, this is the reason CBN is found more in older cannabis plants. For some users, it might be a turn-off while others enjoy the benefit that CBN has to offer!

One of the chemical compounds found in both hemp and cannabis plants. Do not confuse CBN with CBD (cannabidiol) or CBG (cannabigerol) oil. Even though CBD has become popular, CBN is catching up with the peeps too- all thanks to its potential benefits!

CBD and CBG oil give you a tad bit of high but CBN doesn’t come with a typical high. CBN is not the most researched arena of cannabis like CBD, but even limited studies seem to be having promising benefits.

CBN vs CBD

It is natural to be confused with so many cannabinoids especially CBD and CBN oils. They have almost similar acronyms but they have key differences!

The first difference we can easily notice is that CBD and related products are more researched than CBN.

Second, CBN oil is rare to find compared to CBD oil because there are more studies on CBD and also, companies incorporated CBD too much. Thus, CBN is comparatively less accessible ( for now at least).

Can CBN help you sleep?

We often relate cannabis and CBD to be the best sleeping aid or a method to relieve anxiety and depression. In the veins of dealing with cannabis products, companies market CBN oil as a sleeping aid. It is also based on some anecdotal evidence of CBN proving to be a potential sedative.

Honestly, there is very little scientific evidence to back up that CBN is effective as a sleeping aid. Perhaps, people find a relation between sleep and CBN because of the old prominent cannabis flower, where it comes from!

Another reason could be because of a fact that when THC is exposed to air for a long period of time, THCA ( Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) converts into CBN.

However, if you do find an old bag of cannabis makes you sleepy, it might be because of other factors. To summarize, it is difficult to pin whether it is CBN that induces sleep!

Miscellaneous effects of CBN

Even though CBN is not well-researched, the limited studies look promising. But here is a catch- none of the studies prove to be definitive about the potential medicinal or general health benefits.

That said, here are some probable health benefits.

Relieves pain

CBN is found maybe potent to relieve pain. A study in 2019 found that CBN was effective in managing pain in rats. Thus, it was inferred that CBN might be able to relieve pain in people suffering from various conditions like fibromyalgia.

Stimulates appetite

Cannabis does improve appetite but is CBN effective too? A study on rodents says that exposing them to CBN made them boost their appetite. It can be helpful for people who face appetite troubles due to the conditions they suffer like HIV or cancer.

Neuroprotective properties

A study in 2005 concluded that CBN has a potency to delay the onset of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in rodents.

Antibacterial properties

A study in 2008 on rodents was conducted to look at how CBN affected MRSA bacteria ( it causes staph infections). It proved that CBN can kill these MRSA bacteria, which is resistant to a huge range of antibiotics.

Reduces inflammation

A study in  2016 was conducted to see how CBN deals with inflammation-induced due to arthritis in rats. The study proves that like other cannabinoids, CBN also possesses anti-inflammatory properties.

Is CBN Safe?

It is worthy to note that CBN is a non-psychoactive compound and does not have a typical high like those other cannabinoids.

And, yes there is not enough research or study or scientific evidence, so it is difficult to say anything right now.

There are no side effects as such known concerning CBN, but it does not imply that side effects do not exist. It is just that there are not enough studies to prove anything.

As an advisory, pregnant and breastfeeding women and children should avoid CBN until researchers prove that it is safe for them!

Overall, it is important to consult your healthcare provider about indulging into the use of CBN oil.

How to choose your product?

Often companies and brands mix CBN oil into CBD oil into a single product. The product comes in a glass bottle along with a dropper attached to the inside of the lid.

So let us get one thing straight: hypothetically, one neither needs to get a specific permission to produce CBN nor get it tested before putting it in the market. Unlike CBD, CBN is not regulated by the FDA.

This is the reason why you should go through the label of the CBN or CBD product you are about to purchase.

It is essential that you choose products that are approved by third-party labs. The report will tell you all about its contents- a complete analysis of what you will get into. It should also confirm what is written on the label. Make sure it tells you about other inclusions like metals, pesticides, or molds.

Choosing a product when you have a wide range of options can be a troublesome process. So, start with finding a reputable company or a reliable source. Contact them and do not hesitate to present yoru bunch of doubts or concerns.

Bottom Line

CBN is getting popular but still, there is limited research around various health-concerning aspects, including its potency to be effective as a sleeping aid.

However, if you are still willing to give CBD oil a try, consult your doctor first. Discuss how it can help you or whether it has any side effects or not!
