Summer is finally here! The birds are singing, flowers are blooming and the sun is beginning to shine. Why not invite friends and over and throw a garden party? And if you host it in the orangery, not even the good old British weather can spoil the day! Need more inspiration? Read the following tips.

Pick a Theme or Keep It Simple?

A lot of garden parties these days have themes, which can be a lot of fun. Feeling patriotic? Why not celebrate a national holiday such as August bank holiday with friends. Prefer to live the fairy tale? Enjoy a fantasy theme such as Alice in Wonderland and host a Mad Hatters Tea Party by hiring caterers for your event. Or maybe you would rather keep things simple, in which case you could add some energy and brightness with a spring-inspired colour scheme.

Food and Drink

All the best parties have great food and drinks, but neither has to be too complicated. As Summer only comes once a year and when it does it’s only for a few days … why not just hire caterers and have an elite banquette for all your family and friends at such good prices? Or hire caterers to prepare a delicious finger food buffet? Nothing is more stressful than knowing you have around 50 to 100 guests and your the one rushing around preparing all the food. Meanwhilst your friends and family are at home dolling themselves up to the nines. Although it is not always about just food,  selections of drinks is always required as having a good selection allows people to have options. Aim for refreshing and revitalizing, and keep the mood light. Good ideas for non-alcoholic drinks are iced tea, lemonade or sparkling water, and spring cocktails, a glass of Pimms, and beer or cider always go down a treat.

Atmosphere

To create the perfect party atmosphere, think about decorations, lighting and music. A DJ or live music provides entertainment but be mindful of the volume – if it’s too loud guests will be shouting rather than talking to one another. Look for decorative items that match your theme, such as serving ware, napkins and tablecloths and remember that flowers are always a nice touch (though be mindful of hay fever sufferers!). Lighting is also crucial to creating ambience – string lights, hanging lanterns and candles will all feel magical. On cooler summer evenings, keep your guests comfortable with a fire pit or outdoor heater.

Beating the British Weather

As you know, British weather is at best unpredictable. To avoid rain spoiling your party, host your event at least partially undercover. If you are lucky enough to have an orangery or conservatory, place all food and drinks inside but open the doors and allow guests to fully enjoy the garden. Come rain or shine – the party will go on!
