CAT Percentile will be released on January 6, 2020 along with Result

The result of Common Admission (CAT)Test is declared in the form of percentile. A percentile is an indicator of the rank of the candidates among the total number of participants appeared in the examination. Percentile is not related to the marks or the percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the examination. Percentile of any candidates is the measure of the percentage of the students who are lagging behind the candidates in terms of marks.

CAT Percentile: Explanation

Let us take an example of an examination in which 1000 candidates have appeared. Suppose any candidates have secured 90 percentile, it means that the marks of the candidates are higher than the 900 students (90%) in the examination. Thus we can also say that the position of the candidates is 100 in the examination. The percentile is calculated by the given formula: 

P= (R/N) * 100

P= Percentile of the candidate

R= Rank of the candidates

N= Total number of candidates

While everybody wants to seek admission to IIMs most of them are curious about the facts that how much they require in order to achieve 99+ percentile. The percentile varies in 4 range listed below: 

• 95.01 percentile and above
• 90.01 to 95 percentile
• 85.01 to 90 percentile
• 80 to 85 percentile
  

Out of these 4 ranges, the percentile required for the candidate to get admission into IIM lies between 95.01 and above. The marks required for the candidates lies between 125-2 marks where the level of competition for 99+ percentile is so high that range from 99 to 99+ lies between 145 to 200 where 155 can be considered as minimum marks to achieve 99 percentile and more than 195 marks can be considered as an ideal platform for 99+ percentile. Apart from the minimum eligibility criteria set by the IIMs, it can assume that all the admission are offered to the candidates between 95-99 percentile.
