Car Dent Repair Tips

Paintless dent repair helps to save a lot of money otherwise invested in new paint job for your whole vehicle. Dent is a common occurrence and your car is likely to get dinged eventually. And dent repair is important too; not only for resale values, but also to save a costly insurance claim. This article will help you to get started on dent repairs.

The first tip for dent repair is to evaluate the dent. Old dents or those set too deeply into your car’s surface aren’t easily to be knocked out. Using a damp rag, try to wipe off the surface. If there is any fabric or layers coming off, simply remove them. Inspect the area closely using bright light and keep your eyes open for lines that are threading away from the dent. Now, try to suck out the area that has been dinged. You can use a suction cup or the largest plunger you have for this and place the circle over the dent. Place it in a way so that the dent lies exactly in the center in order to receive most of the suction. However, be very careful while doing this and do not scratch the paint. It is recommended not to move the plunger or the cup around while applying the suction. Now pull the tool you are using hard away from the car’s surface, which will pop the dent back into place.

In case of a door panel dent or a dent on the roof or hood, simply try to tap it out yourself. But here too, beware of stretching. There are do-it-yourself kits available that come with instructions; using which you can remove dents on your own. Some of these kits are more elaborate, giving more options to you. These kits are great for taking out the guesswork. However, some dents are not easy to manage yourself. If that’s the case, it is recommended to get professional opinions and help.

To find a good body shop in your area you can start asking your family members, friends and colleagues for referrals. You can also search online for local car dent repair shops. This will help you to find a good list of body shops providing professional services. But there are certain things you need to check out, based on your needs. First, check out the ship itself. You already have the name of the shops, visit them. Check for their awards, degrees, certification and posted prices. Such information is also available online and they will help you to avoid being scammed. Skills and experience are the two major factors you need to look for while looking for a car dent repair shop. Also, look for the employees’ level of professionalism. Are they courteous, friendly, and knowledgeable? Do they take pride in their work? These are some factors you need to determine as unsatisfied employees would hardly do a good job.
