Canada Skilled Worker Programme

by Ashish Singh Digital Marketing Executive
The Maple leaf country has always faced a structural deficit in skills in various occupations, in the local labor pools of various parts of the country. As a consequence, in order to plug the gaps in the demand and supply of the skills, the Canadian authorities, in coordination with the CIC and the governments of various states and territories, have formulated a comprehensive skills migration scheme.

The situation of availability of Skilled Workers in Canada is currently near desperate and is expected to further worsen in the near future as a major part of the workforce is approaching retirement age. The government has drawn up contingency plans to counter the approaching fiasco – that may result due to absence of appropriately trained workforce in the strategic work locations.

The Canada Skilled Worker Programme, in its current avatar, is believed to be a comprehensively planned scheme that strives to take care of various aspects of demand of the skills in various sectors and locations. The Maple leaf country has thirteen states and territories that have diverse, yet widely dispersed requirements of trained manpower in primary, manufacturing and tertiary sectors.

The inwards Canada Skilled migration scheme has been broadly divided into two primary categories: the federal schemes – that include the erstwhile independent schemes, like FSWP, FSTP and CEC – that completely rely on the Express Entry; and the provincial skills migration framework – that include independent state run schemes and routes linked to the Express Entry.

The Canadian government intends to, in addition to arranging appropriate numbers of people with the required skills sets in various occupations; ensure that the people entering the country are able to establish themselves successfully. It surely wants that the new entrants do not have struggle finding appropriate employment that match their skills and training.

For this, the government has made an elaborate arrangement, in coordination with various specialized agencies to evaluate the educational credentials of the people intending to shift to the country. This, in the opinion of the experts, would go a long way in assisting the Canadian employers, as well as the new entrants; the employers would not face any dilemma while assessing the qualifications of the immigrants, and the immigrants would not need to put efforts in proving their qualifications.

On top of that, the government also intends to establish the fact that the people shifting to the country through various Canada Skilled immigration routes are able to successfully integrate with the local environment of the country. To ensure this, the authorities also want the people, before applying for the immigration, to assess their abilities and qualifications, for various programs, based on a grid of parameters.

These parameters can be broadly categorized as: age; language compatibility in either of the official languages of the country – English or French; work exposure in the field of specialization; educational level attained in that field; and adaptability aspects – that include the education, language skills of the spouse, work exposure gained in the Maple leaf country in the nominated occupation by the applicants etc.

The people who are able to obtain a job offer from a Canadian employer, or a nomination from a willing province, prior to after placing their requests on the Express Entry, in the form of an EOI get additional points, that eventually increases their chances of being selected.

Apart from the Express Entry, Canada Skilled Worker Programme also entails an independent PNP selection by the governments of the states or territories.

Moving to the Maple leaf country is going to be a tad easy task in days to come, as the qualified people would get appropriate priority.
