Canada Fingerprints Authentication to check Criminal Record
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police provide a criminal record check for Canadian residents. To conduct a criminal background check, the RCMP needs a full set of fingerprints that includes both flat and rolled prints of all 10 fingers. All criminal background checks and fingerprint certificates arising from any provincial or local police station in Canada have to be notarized by a Canadian notary public or a Commissioner of Oaths before it is authenticated by the RCMP.
Types of criminal background checks
An individual's criminal history file consists of all criminal sentences, charges, and discharges, this includes their fingerprint data. However, it would not include their fingerprints if they have never been charged or convicted of any crime. Below are the two types of criminal record checks carried out in Canada :
Criminal Record check - This method confirms whether a person has a criminal history or not. It also supplies the applicant with the full information so they can use it for disclosure locally or abroad.
Vulnerable Sector (VS) check - This method confirms if a person has a criminal history, including any criminal pardons for sexual crimes. It will also contain all local police reports with the relevant information to the vulnerable sector check. Only the information that can be legally disclosed is made available for disclosure.
Why Fingerprints Authentication Canada?
Fingerprinting offers a reliable method of personal identification in Canada. When you apply for a "Criminal Record or Vulnerable Sector (VS)" check, you will be required to give the police or the fingerprinting company an electronic copy of your fingerprints. These prints are only used by the RCMP to confirm your identity and are taken for the following reasons:
· Record Accuracy
The electronic technology ensures that the prints collected will produce accurate checks, and drastically reduces the length of time usually required to complete a criminal records check. These prints are unique to every individual, and if there are any criminal instances in the criminal records database it will show up in the criminal records check eliminating all false assertions.
· False Identity
Fingerprinting has served authorities worldwide for hundreds of years to provide reliable identification of people.Fingerprints data collection considerably decreases the chances of people being incorrectly linked to a criminal record of somebody else who may have a similar name. This error reduction ensures the accuracy of criminal record checks. False identity can work for (innocent person) or against anyone (not innocent). It ensures that if you did not commit a crime you will not be labeled the perpetrator.
· Easy Process
Electronically submitting your fingerprints is simple and convenient. All you have to do is go to a police service or an accredited company. In a lot of situations, it isn't necessary to take the rolled prints you only need to put your fingers on the scanning machine, and you are done! Before the introduction of electronic fingerprinting machines, the task of collecting fingerprints was arduous and long winded, but the electronic method has now made the process accurate and easy.
In order to use the fingerprints outside of Canada you need to authenticate them first by the Department of Foreign Affairs Canada.
