Can you ask your wedding party to stay sober before the ceremony

A wedding is a day of celebration, so it's only natural to pop open some bubbly or pour a glass of that aged bourbon to honor the occasion. But don't forget that you and your wedding party have a big performance to get through before the party really begins! If you want to make sure your bridesmaids and groomsmen have just as great a day as you do — without stumbling down the aisle, that is — our experts have some advice for how to keep the drinking to a minimum without killing the mood.

The easiest way to keep drinking to a minimum is to keep the available alcohol to a minimum the morning of your wedding. Instead of stocking the bar, have only a bottle or two of bubbly on-hand alongside your favorite juices for a morning-of mimosa bar. For the guys, a single smaller bottle of his favorite spirit or just a six-pack or two of a local craft beer will get them in the festive spirit without the risk of overindulging.

It's also a conversation worth having directly with your wedding party. Let them know how you're feeling, whether you're nervous about things running smoothly, are under the watchful eye of a more tight-laced parent, or would just prefer a dry morning, and respectfully request that they skip the booze along with you. Since these people are some of your closest friends, they'll definitely understand your desire to save the toasting for after your vows.

You might want to splurge on a round of lattes from the local coffee shop or stock the fridge with flavored sparkling waters (which taste even better served in champagne flutes!) to make the morning feel special — though that gorgeous white dress hanging in the closet will do that all on its own!
