Treadmills are a great way to get in your daily workout. It's easy to be distracted by other things while running on the treadmill, but there are some tricks that can help you maintain concentration and increase the number of calories burned during your run. Read more about how to burn calories on a treadmill!

Start by running at one mile per hour on a 1% incline. Run for one minute, then reduce the speed to two miles per hour and increase the incline to 2%. Continue alternating between 1 and 2 mph with an incline of 2% for 30 minutes. You should aim to run about three miles during this 30-minute workout.

To calculate how many calories you've burned, use this equation: ((duration x intensity) / 200) + duration = calories burned. For example, if you did the treadmill workout described above for 27 minutes, here's your calculation:

((27 x 3.5) / 200)+27=174 calories burned

175 calories burned in 27 minutes

You can also estimate your calories burned using the Karvonen formula. To do this, first subtract your age from 220. Then multiply that number by your planned exercise intensity level (expressed as a percentage) and finally add your resting heart rate (measured in beats per minute). Once you have these three numbers, follow this equation: ((HRmax x HRrest) – HRrest) + (planned exercise intensity level x duration of exercise ) = estimated calories burned. For example:

((220 – 38) x 60) + (50% x 27)= 205 calories burned

205 calories burned in 27 minutes

If you don't know your resting heart rate, sit quietly for 15 minutes and take your pulse once you feel completely calm. Next, to find your maximum heart rate, subtract your age from 220 and then subtract that number by 15 and double the resulting number. To get a more accurate reading, take your pulse for one full minute every few days and average all of these numbers together.
