Peppers are one of the most popular vegetables that home gardeners like to grow. This is because of how easy it is to grow them. Most California Wonder peppers take a long growing season that has to be warm as they grow slower during cooler periods. They should be planted in warm soil during the spring. If you live in an area with a cooler climate, you can start with planting your peppers indoors and then replant them outside when it’s warmer. In the end, most use the California Wonder pepper as a great stuffing pepper with a rich flavor and tender skin. These tips will help you have an easier time growing and maintaining the California Wonder pepper.

Growing Guide

The California Wonder pepper must be started indoors around 8 weeks before the last frost of spring season. You must dig around 1/4 -inches into a well-drained area. As these seeds need a very warm area to germinate, the soil should be around 80-85 degrees F. You can purchase heating mats that allow you to set up the correct temperature for optimal conditions. The California Wonder pepper seed will have an easier time growing if they’re exposed to more light. You should place the plants in a window or a very sunny location in your home, or adding artificial light if necessary.

Once the last frost has occurred, wait around 2 to 3 weeks. By this time the soil should be warmed and there shouldn’t be any more abnormal weather conditions. Before planting them outside, try testing the temperatures at night for a week. You don’t want any temperatures below 60 degrees F or above 75 degrees F.

At this point, you can now replant them outside. They should be spaced around 12 to 24 inches apart. It’s important not to rush this crucial step. You need to select a location that is in direct sunlight and has never been used for other any other types of vegetables for several years. Once soil temperatures reach over 50 degrees F all the time, you can place your golden California Wonder pepper is ready to thrive in the great outdoors.

Maintenance

Maintaining peppers is about the same as taking care of other vegetables. They need a steady stream of water and lots of heat and sunlight to grow. If you’re thinking of fertilizing, use organic fertilizer instead. The soil needs to be filled with phosphorus, calcium, and potassium and the fertilizer should stay away from high nitrogen as this can stunt the fruit growth.
