The start and rise of grocery e-commerce is based on availing convenient shopping options to people, along with those who are living with hectic life schedules. Grocery e-commerce is growing at the expense of brick and mortar store. The rate it is catching the trend is astounding in perishable items like fruits, vegetables, grocery and other daily household essentials.

Supported by technology enabled platform, the segment comprising foods and vegetables is attracting a good number of users who find online shopping more convenient and efficient than going to the market.

Priced at Rs 300 crore/month, the market of fruits/vegetables has not been cashed in while doing e/mobile-commerce. Reason may well be of people don't see this segment like other e-commerce products that they can order online without touching or feeling them. Now, the orders for fruits/vegetables form 20% of the total orders coming online. People's concern over quality and pricing have also been sorted out as grocery e-commerce including grocery store in gurgaon, are taking every step to avail top quality of fruits/vegetables/grocery/household at reasonable pricing. Their such efforts are resulting in repeat of purchases from their respective customers. This growing tendency of online shopping for fruits/vegetables/grocery/households is getting a few months old start-ups average 12,000-15,000 orders/day.

Location wise, Pune is the fastest growing and most orders here come from Hinjewadi, though orders are served across the city. Importantly, 99% of the orders come through web or mobile app.

E-commerce are also tying up with the farmers for stock management that also enables them to offer additional discounts over fruits/vegetables. For instance, in Pune itself, e-grocers have tied up with 120 farmers. Also, based on locations, e-grocers are preferring to tie-up with aggregators but avoiding marketyards.

Some grocery e-commerce are also tying up with Hypercity chain of malls that is facilitating them quickly access the stock and delivery to such locations where there is no mall. Operating on Hypercity inventory model, they are bagging around 200-300 orders a day and serving them successfully.

Going a few steps forward, some online grocery retails are also planning express delivery within an hour that is currently 3-4 hours on an average by different grocery e-commerce.

With this, there is much more to be experienced by the time coming in grocery e-commerce.
